WIP - 2nd model in ZB & VFX!

I’m a Maya VFX artist with a strong “generalist” background. I’m out of work and I figured I’d sharpen my UV mapping and texturing skills… and do some really cool effects too!
I’ve never worked with Maya’s Fur/Hair before, but I’ve done plenty of cloth effects. I dug up an old model, worked on it in ZBrush and threw some simulations on it “just for kicks.”
later I’ll post a video of the test animation and a back story for my guy here…

This is a test of motion and the over-all strength of the simulation. I have a completely different animation in mind for the final.

I always create a test animation to judge the dynamics. It looks a little silly but the idea is to make sure nothing breaks while I’m working. Blend shapes and Constraints are usually the first to break.

This model is my first attempt at setting up displacement maps. And WOW! What a process! It took me two nights to paint to model (not done) and another day and a half to get the UVs “close enough”. I don’t plan on going crazy with the texturing but I really want the displacement map to be dead on!

I still have a long way to go before I have a final, but C&C is always welcome. Especially with UVs! I suck at UVs!

2nd revision, still in progress.

C&C welcome!
