WinTab Service is not available

Hi.
My Wacom Intuos 4 tablet has a problem.
When I start it, ‘WinTab Service is not available’ message appears.

I re-install the latest driver of the tablet and 1-2 previous version either. Also tried with CD that included the product.
When I did it again and again, the problem solved immediately.

However, when I reboot my CPU, the message constantly appears. So I need to re-install the driver again to use my tablet.

It seems the overall tablet problem not only Zbrush. I can see the tablet is on but any sensor works…
It seems some of other program crash the tablet driver.

Anyone have same issue?

Thank you.

I occasionally get the issue with my intuos4. In some programs its especially annoying as I have to hit the button/click space roughly 34 times in order for it to fully go away. However for me, temporarily going to the switch users screen and plugging the tablet in there normally solves the issue every time. Since rebooting doesn’t seem to work for you, I’m not sure if you’d have the same luck.

I too get this problem on occasion. I just re-installed the drivers. I’m using an Intuos 3. So far, the best drivers i’ve found are version 6.1.5-3a. I’ve been running for quite a while now without the WinTab Service problem.

Thanks for your reply.

I just forgive up and send the email to Wacom customer care.

My tablet can not detect any my pen moving, though the LED is still on…

This is a problem with Windows 7 and its tablet drivers fighting with Wacom’s. Microsoft really needs to fix this issue.

Until then try this.

  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Under Hardware and Sound, access to the Wacom Tablet Properties.
  3. Click on the Remove Preferences option.
  4. In the Tablet Preference File Utility dialog, click on the Remove button to remove all user preferences of Wacom.
  5. After doing that, click Download Driver Update under Wacom Tablet Properties to re-install the driver again.

Here is the response from Wacom. After did this, It seems OK so far…

Thanks all you guys!

I would advise against manually deleting those files in your Program Files folder. They are not going to account for all of the driver components, so this will typically leave behind older files, causing issues. First, use the following steps to completely remove the current driver, and install only the latest. Make sure to do so only on the local administrative account:

Disconnect the tablet from the computer
Open your Start Menu and then the Control Panel
Open Programs and Features
Uninstall any listing here for Tablet or Wacom Tablet and then restart the computer
After restarting, download and install only the latest 6.20 driver from:
http://cdn.wacom.com/U/drivers/IBMPC/pro/WacomTablet_6.2.0w5.exe
Once the installation is complete, and the system is stable, connect the tablet

As always, make sure your tablet is connected directly to your computer. Avoid using USB hubs, keyboard/monitor ports, or docking stations with the tablets, as they can cause inconsistent behavior.
Then, we can check to see if there is a misplaced preference file from a previous installation:
Open your Start Menu and then Computer
Open your main hard drive, that contains Windows (probably your C drive)
Open your Windows folder
Open the System32 folder
Once here, use the search box in the top right of the window, to search the System32 folder for: tablet.dat
Delete any entries that come up here
Next, open your Start Menu, All Programs, and your Wacom Tablet folder
Open the Tablet Preference File Utility
Click on ‘Remove’ under ‘All user preferences’
See if this has the tablet working better.
