Widow's Walk

Coastal houses used to be built with a small railed observation platform called a Widow’s Walk where they could scout for seamen.

This image was a first for me in a few different areas. It was the first time I painted sky rather using than an alpha fog. I really had to force myself to use lighter lights and darker darks than my eye thought I needed to get the right effect.
I also tried using sweep profiles for all the clothing on this one. Made modelling them a breeze compared to shaping a sphere.
The biggest first for me was the ocean. My previous attempts at water have been interesting looking. A special thanks to DeeVee for his Seawater Script. It made water making so easy and realistic, thanks.

WOWZER this is a very pretty image…love that water…good to see you back tag…youve been missed buddy.

Wonderful work, Tami, and a perfect mood…
I come originally from the East Coast, Nova Scotia to be exact, and they have both Widows’ Walks, and just those kind of skies there. And you also did a perfect sea!

Tag, thanks for sharing this image. I think it is an excellent image, very well done. It reminds me a little of SC’s image on the three ladies.
I really like this image a lot, I must say it is the best use of the Script I have seen to date without doubt.

This is a beautiful image. Very pleasing to the eye.

perfect sea and a gorgeous sky, not to mention the beautifully modelled lady - the atmosphere is absolutely great, Tag! i love this painting. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Great job! I like the way that you used the SweepProfile3D for the railing. She’s beautifully done, too! Good to see you active here again.

Thank you all for your compliments. It’s so much fun to be playing with ZBrush again and all of the encouraging words and helpful suggestions from everyone have been deeply missed.
I’m glad to hear I got the sky right. I think I’ll try painting more skies. It takes longer than alpha/fog, but was fun to do. Thanks for the compliment on the water DeeVee. I owe the water all to you
Here are a couple of the models up close.
The clothing and head, the hair before much pushing and pulling with the smudge brush and my feeble attempt at a ship (so happy for the depth settings). I may have to try another ship after finding some good reference pictures.

This is such a great picture, Tag. Very sweet, melancholy.

Did you see Stonecutter’s picture of the 3 ladies waiting for a ship to come in?

Wow! Great perspective and atmosphere on this one. Your painting is beautiful.
