Why is this Happening?

Could someone please tell me why this happens? I think it is called faseting? I place my normal map on my model and render and keep getting results like this. See picture.

This is an extreme version. I dont have turbo smooth or Nurms Subdivions turned on. When I do turn it on I still get the same results just not as bad. I even turned it up to 6 iterations and it was still there. Sorry if this is a noob question. I’ve been trying to teach myself and its been a long road. Need some help.

Forgot to mention. I’m using max2010 and z 3.5 I pulled my normal map from xNormal this time. Just trying it out. I get the same results when pull a normal map out of zbrush.

hi, im not sure because im using maya.
but after i import my obj file’s i have to soften the edge to go to normals --> soften edge.
In max it work a little different. but i think that thats wat you need to change somewhere. in your material editor or in your object settings.

apply a smooth modifier on it. or in Editable Poly there is a smoothing group in rollout just go to face selection and select all and it will highlighted red. then just click on the numbers from 1 to 45 or you can just click auto smooth.

Thanks for the help. I applied Auto smooth to it and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the help
