Hi i just read a disturbing review from a non-gamer totaly slamming ID software and praising VALVE…
it really upset me, Id software donates it’s time and resources to young people Via releasing sourcecode…
Valve made it big on half life, which was the quake 1 engine on steroids… i have yet to see VALVE release anything to the comunity other than instructions on how to make the Valve products better… even for INDI developers they keep secrets. guess they dont want any compitition.
Lots of videogames that we enjoy and play are based off the quake 1 engine…
Without ID helping and shareing the information they have, the video game industry would not be as lush as it is now.
Install Debian linux, and look in the APT repository under GAMES, you will find Quake 1,2,3 and Doom 1 source code… you wont find anything from VALVE
look further and you will notice that there is no other comercial game sourcecode available, only ID helps out the beginner programmer.
with half life 2, I have to have an Online connection , and i have to have an Active account with them… they have the steam platform which dose not allow users to use All seeing EYE to fin servers…
you must be running steam to use an external online game browser.
after you run steam you are subject to unsolicitaded junk, like this stupid kung-fu ragdoll hack they are trying to sell as a game.
Id software allows me to use all seeing eye, they also allow us to skip the intro page via command line option.
Id software dose not use Deceptive marketing tactics either…
right now i own 4 copies of half life 2… they package the Game of the year addition and another one with a silver lable in packages that look like the “gold” and “silver” edditions… BUT THEY ARE NOT, you will not get Day of defete source from any versions you buy from WAL-MART or from GAMESTOP… they are all lame versions with only counterstrike…
to get day of defete source you must purchace the counterstrike source cd…
I bet valve has burned a few million other people too. this is the biggest scam I have ever seen in videogames.
man, I hope Quake 4 has good internet prodicol, I realy want to see someone squish Valve on online gameplay. half life 2 has the worst internet prodicol i have ever seen!
we tried to do a counter strike source match durring our lan party… Even over a LAN the connections are Choppy and you get major Lag when anyone interacts with the physics engine. the half life 2 prodicol is the poorest game preformance I have ever seen from a comercial title
I finaly found Day of defete source at WAL-MART, and am going to attempt to install it this afternoon…all i wanted to see was HDR lighting in a real time engine, I have not even played it yet, and i already am ready for a disapointment.
Steam is just a bunch of hot air!
well sorry for the novel,
Id software realy deserves more glory than they get… valve deserves to get sued.
EDIT:ok played DOD source…
just like all the other HL2 mods, the online gameplay is choppy, and full of lag…
reminds me of playing quake 2 over a phone modem…only quake 2 was faster…
I was just playing on a server with 92 ping, and I could count 1 second before my bulletts hit anything… i was killed before ever hearing a gunshot…
the DOD on the half life 1 engine is much better as far as gameplay is concerned… anyone with a Phone modem should get half life 1.
even with my Cable connection I am getting major latency issues with HL2…
Glad i am just useing the source engine for my portfolio, If i was buying the game just to play i really would have been dissapointed…
Think after i get my portfolio together i am going to post my serial numbers on my website…
I realy have no use for 4 versions of the same *%&^ing game.
Maybe wait for the new Crytek 2 engine… it is the most awesome thing I have ever seen
