Why do polygonal hair cards take up so much memory? (Question-Please Help)

I manually placed hair cards. I have an i7 CPU with 32 GB of RAM. Each hair card has its own sub tool and have the same UV’s. I used cards that are 168 polys, 240 polys, or 498 polys per card. The total hair polygon count is a little over 13,000, yet takes a whopping 14 GB of RAM of active memory.

I was able to tell the hair was taking up so much memory because I deleted all of the hair cards and the active memory decreased dramatically, by 14 GB. By contrast, I deleted a 3 million poly subtool and it barely had an effect on memory.

The overall model is around 35 Million polys. I never had this problem before. I’m on Zbrush 2022.0.5. Is there a reason textured, UV’d polygonal hair cards are taking up so much memory? Please help. Thanks in advance.
