Why can't I get a clean cut with Trim Rectangle / Square

When cutting with the trim brush, I can’t get a clean cut. See image 1 and 2 for the results. It leaves this curve where I cut, and I want it to be a flat plane.

Image 3, which I mocked up in photoshop, is how I would expect the brush should trim thru my sphere. Is there any reason why it leave a curve, and any way I can avoid it? Is there a better way to do this?

That’s normal behavior for that brush. It’s always been like that. ZBrush is basically closing a hole and is averaging how it should be done. Boolean is the operation you should be using. With Live Boolean, it makes the operation simple.

Thanks for clarifying. I was hoping to avoid the extra steps to have a bit of a faster workflow.

During my research I actually found a zScript called deepcut that enables trims to get a clean cut straight thru like I had hoped which is great!

Oh! You must be using 4R7 then. Hmmm.
