which wacom tablet should i buy?

hello folks,

well ! i have never used a tablet before and have been thinking of buying one for me but the problem is that i don’t know which one would be best for an intermediate artist like me .i am mainly gonna use it for sculpting and drawing… i am still a student so can’t afford much. i have two options intous 4 small 4 x 6 size or bamboo fun pen and touch which is bigger and also almost same price … i am personally thinking of buying intous 4 as i have heard its better sensitivity than bamboo tablets but little concerned about its size…

please giive me some suggestions guys…

i am new to zbrush central so please excuse me if i posted the question in wrong form…

hello,

I can recommend the intuos series. I tried a graphire bevore, but the intuos 3 was the better choice. If you are concerned about working space, choose a intuos “m” or “l” but don’t chosse a tablet too large for your personal preferences.

With a limited budget, a simple mouse should be sufficient to draw. A tablet only makes sense when working in a highliy detailed pen drawing style, what is not necessary for sculpting in zbrush. I also think, the mouse is the better choice for skulpting when having trouble with rotating the model with intuos disappearing out of the working window nearly every time.

The sensitivity of the tablet is not as necessary as it’s resolution as I found out that it would not really work smooth in preassure tests. I therefore only use the software’s pressure or opacity bars. I do not have experience in using the bamboo.

I suspect its a lot to do with preference.

I have friends who prefer larger tablets, but I am happy with the Bamboo. It is reasonably small, but I do all my movements with small movements of the fingers mainly, as larger movements tire my wrist. I in fact have the bamboo set to cover both monitors, so in reality I am really only using half of the bamboo’s area as it is.

I couldn’t bear to go back to sculpting with the mouse though!

NB: I do prefer the mouse for maya for some reason though.

Unfortunately I suspect a lot of it is personal preference :frowning:

thanks guys for ur suggestions, well the concern is that i also wanna use it for sketching and drawing, which is almost impossible to do with mouse. and right now i can only afford like $280 to $300 , now in that price range i can go for intous small however on the same price range i guess i can get a bamboo tablet with bigger space… so i am little confused should i wait for sometime and buy only intous medium or bamboo would also do the job for me. as far as sculpting goes its fine but to draw i really need some bigger space…

this is what i use http://www.adesso.com/index.php/en/home/tablets/graphics-tablet/153-cybertablet-m14 has a scroll wheel button which i modified to change brush size also a 4000 lpi and a large drawing area 12" x 7.25" and it can be had for under $150 in some sites.
