Which RAM

Hello to the community,

I want to build up a new sytem for private use (not production). But I don´t know much about pc hardware.

What I need is a lot of power for programs like Zbrush3,Mudbox 3dsmax and Photoshop.

I think the most important for me is a fast cpu and a lot of fast RAM.

I already decided to buy a Core 2 Quad E6600, should be a very fast CPU for a fair price?!

The GigaByte GA-P35C-DS3R mainboard seems to be a good choice for that CPU.

But when it comes to memory, the choice seems to be more difficult. There are a lot of different RAMS from different companies.

I want 4gig DDR2 memory for my machine…
Maybe you can help me with that. Is it better to buy those dual channel kits 2x1gig(two of them)or 4 single memory chips ( 4x 1gig)? Or even 2x 2gig?

Also I dont know which company is good, some a much more expensive (corsair, kingston…) than others (a-data, OCZ, Geil… ) .

And also there are so many differnt types of RAM DDR2 533MHz … 800MHz, 1066MHz. Sure, I think faster is better (and more expensive ) , but I don´t know how much the mainboard can handle with 4gig. And if there is so much differnence for the different types for my needs.

Well, its really confusing for a non-technical guy like me  , all I want is a really good machine for modelling, sculpting, texturing and rendering.

Thx in advance

greetings

-Manuel

I’ll give my input:
first you need to know all the specs for the mother broad before you get it to make
sure its a perfect match for the CPU and for what kind of RAM it needs (get the correct voltage!)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128048
I would also get a SATA Hard drive (with a 8 or 16mb cache) since you use Zbrush and
it is dependent on HD cache-ing a fast HD to MB connection is a real system booster!

I looked at the specs the <b>DDR2 1066Hz RAM</b> is good if you want <b>8Gb </b>of RAM,
but<b> DDR3 </b>is relatively faster but that board can only have <b>4Gb</b> of it.

           Some side notes:
           :small_orange_diamond:Some system tools I use are [<b>Diskeeper2007</b> <b>Pro Premier</b>](http://diskeeper.com/defrag.asp)</span>. its the best
Auto Hard Dive de-fragmenting program out there...keeps my older Dell running smooth
:small_orange_diamond:remember to get a <b>hard drive cooler </b>especaily if you live in the heat
:small_orange_diamond:I use [<b>nVIDIA Gelato</b>](http://www.nvidia.com/page/gz_home.html) (its FREE!) it uses both CPU and GPU(graphics card)
to boost rendering and can do almost anything Mental Ray an Render Man can do.

     hope this helps
