Which one is better?

hey guys, im looking to get into zbrush big time but obviously a tablet is a must. I am comparing the intuos 6x11 to the bamboo fun medium size. Is the intous worth the $160 more or is the bamboo fun significant enough.

intuos 3 6X8 or 4X6
They have higher pressure sensitivity
They sit nice on the desk cause their smaller
The smaller the tablet the less wrist strain you’ll have.
Bigger tablets you have to maintain steady hand movement for longer periods.
Very portable!!!

Should I go on

Um bamboos are cheap and you will just end up buying a intuos anyway after you outgrow it in a month

ok cool, yeah I was kinda thinking that also, just wanted some more opinions…

any more thoughts before i make an investment?

I think i’ve replied this 3 times in the past week

I couldnt be happier with my A5 intuos3 , my collegue has a bamboo and I was underwhelmed by it.

Completely agree with what “cannedmushrooms” said. Find out if you are someone that will use short strokes to draw or are able to keep a steady hand for long lines.

ok cool, i know for sure that when i draw on paper i use short strokes to draw, so im guessing the intuos is the best for me then… is there any setting up ill need to do to get it to work fine?

If you have a widescreen monitor you should be looking at the Intuos3 6x11. If you use the 6x8 in widescreen you’ll have to shorten the usable area of the tablet surface – this isn’t too bad on the 6x8 but on the 4x6 it becomes, IMO, unbearably small.

ok well I have a 15in mbp, will the 6x11 work fine?

is the 6x11 the best bet for my 15in mbp?

The general rule of thumb is; to get the largest tablet you can afford, [or larger].

But working with a laptop changes that a bit. I would love a 21" Cintiq but I prefer to work with a 15" Mbpro on my drawing table, so I bought the 12" Cintiq WX. It is ‘‘portable’’ whereas the larger tablets are not. I had a little 4x5’’ tablet but gave up on it as it is too frustrating when moving about in large monitors or a MBPro with a second large monitor attached.

I have a 12x18’’ intuos on my workstation but I’ve grown tired of being ‘‘tethered’’ to a big box. I prefer the mobility now that the mbpro’s have the horsepower to handle 3D.

The Cintiq 12 was the perfect compromise for me. I can set up anywhere
(within extension cord reach of an outlet). And of course it is also a 2nd monitor I can hold in my lap with the Mbpro beside me.

I would have to agree with Jbuck. I would not get anything smaller than the 6x11. You won’t regret it. :+1:

I have a 6x8 intuous and it’s been perfect for me… I think anything larger would just be cumbersome and require more hand movement, resulting in less precision…

I used to think that too, untill I got my 9 x12. Now I dont know how I worked in such a confined space. The larger sizes allow for much more detail and precision, not less. The 6 x8 was fine for painting, but finely detailed “drawing” didnt really come alive for me until I got the larger surface area which allowed for more precise stroking.

The pencil and paper "sketchy" experience exists much better for me with the larger size...if you're not that type of artist, this is probably not important for you.

Bottom the line is, you will learn how to work with whatever size you have, become comfortable with it, and learn how to get good results. You will also never regret upgrading to a better or larger intuos, and will never want to go back. When I had a 6x 8 intuos, I was thrilled with that…I am now thrilled with this one. As long as you’re always upgrading, not downgrading, you’ll be fine.

There is no bad wacom production quality tablets, or wrong decision to make. Its just a matter of what you’re in the position to spend. That said, Bamboos are not really professional quality tools, and not geared towards serious artists.
