[Where shalll i begin]

Hello guys, topic says most but anyways im gonna explain why am posting and what im looking for.

I have gotten myself a copy of Zbrush and i find it tp b the most pleasing and understandible application for my intrests, i realy love how you work with brushes and so on. But now to my problem, I have learned the basic interface reading several tutorials and i whant to know where i can begin.

Se i whant to create somthing, and i havnt realy fount any tutorials for that yet, im not very good with zspheres and i dont feel like importing models that i have maid in another 3d application.

Can you please give me some advica what a beginner can do?

If you dont want to import models from other soft… packages then i only see one more option? Z spheres right?Or primitives but if you want more complex shapes im not sure how to archive that.

Im not used to z spheres myself becuse i always export my meshes from 3ds max as a .obj file

There is lots of tutorials that cover the basics in Zbrush. The only thing is that you have to put some time aside and read/watch them

Another thing you can do is to look after some free models you can modefie.

But my advice would be to learn the basics in Zbrush.Follow the tutorials that ships with zbrush or read it here (online manual) Im sure everything is in there!

Hi

depends on what you want to dreat.
if you want to make something humanlike, you also can start with the in ZB3 included lowPoly human and start working on this, thats what i did first, after playing around with the primitivs., cause the proportions are already well from the lowpoly human, your model will look better than when you start with zpheres.

but you really should learn working with Zpheres, they are very important and easy to use. and you can build up very very complex basemeshes. (u better start with non complex  not like i did :frowning: )

or just take the sphere prim. and start building a head. first with tweak bruch to get a rough model then with the other brushes give it the final shape and details.

and keep doing tutorials, you learn so much, and get new ideas what you could do.

Hush,
Not sure what you’re really getting at here. If you don’t like external models or zspheres, then you’re kinda screwed. I DO NOT recommend using other peoples models. If you want to make enemies, then that’s the way to go. You’re better off getting more used to zspheres or importing your mesh from another application. Look at famous artwork or sculptures for ideas, pick up some comic books and model out a character. There’s ideas all around, you just have to stop looking for them.

Well Firerbert

If he find free models thats okay? I mean there is models thats free to use in such purpose if you read the readme file that ships with some of them,Then i cant see any problems with it right.

Also if you share free models i guess you have to deal with it,That people use it and modefie them.If i didnt want someone to modefie my models i wouldnt share them eather right???

Well, I agree, if a model is provided publicly one should assume its going to be manipulated in some way, even if its just for educational purposes.

I dont see a problem with it, but I do feel that using other peoples models is just delaying your advancement in the 3d art world, if you want to practice sculpting, by all means its a good method of practice… but all in all, you should learn the basics of creating base models if you wish to start creating your own artwork… because thats the only way the work is truely yours and in the end you will feel much more free to express your creativity with the added knowledge of mesh creation/manipulation.

just my 2 cents…

It’s not the fact that free models are out there and people use them for practice. It’s that I’ve seen over and over people calling models “their base mesh” when they took a base model and just sculpted it and called it their own. I’ve seen the Gnomon man from Ian Joyners DVDs floating all over the place on other forums, poser models, you name it. And it’s so obvious that they didn’t make it, they just used it and called it their own. That’s what I don’t like about it. And I agree, you are furthering a downward spiral of not knowing what you’re really doing by using someone elses model. Using it as reference is one thing, but use it for whatever the hell you want is entirely different.

If you have the 50 bucks, I highly recommend every newbie get Meats Meier’s DVD at Gnomon.

(I don’t know anyone at Gnomon, I’ve never met anyone at Gnomon, and I do not know Meats personally–but his videos are the clearest walkthrough from simple sculpting to advanced technique I’ve seen. The $50 and six hours are a great investment if you plan to do much with ZB and only wish it had been available when I started with ZB.)

My second fav set is the Digital Tutors set.
