When using Export, in the Document palette, Can you set a default Save As file type.

Hi… I use the Export button in the Document palette to take “screen shots” of my work in progress from time to time for reference to make notes to myself on what I was doing on a certain project.

When you use this button it saves just a 2D image of just the canvas.

After clicking this button, you get a Windows export image window which has the typical SAVE AS file type box and you can select from the drop down menu: .PSD .PNG .JPEG .BNP .TIFF

.PSD is the default file type, so if you want to save as some thing else you open the save as drop down menu and select another file type.

I think there was a point in the past when I used to use this, and if I chose to save as .png for example from the drop down menu, then that would be my new default, until I would save a file as to something else and then that would be my new default.

Is there any way to change the default save as file type? So for example every time you click Export, the save as file type would always be a certain type of your choice. I thought maybe this was a Windows File Explorer setting, but after trying to figure that out for a while I have had no luck. Can some one please help me with this. Thanks

I don’t think there’s a way to set a default. But you can have a macro button that you press instead of the Document>Export button. That will give you a file dialog with the file extension you want, and then export the document as that type of file. Here’s an example using PNG but it is easy to change if you want.

ExportDoc_PNG.txt (315 Bytes)

Save the file to ZBrush 2019\ZStartup\Macros\Misc\ folder and press “Reload All Macros” in the macro palette, or restart ZBrush. The button will be in the Macro>Macros>Misc sub-palette.ExportDoc_PNG.txt (315 Bytes)

Thanks Marcus, yet again you are helping improve my workflow!

Do you know if it would be possible to combine that document export macro, with a [IPress,TOOL:SAVE AS] command, to some how save an image of the document along with the saving of a Tool?

Some times I do work sessions where I will do many quick “drawings” and then save the tools as I go, and as well also save the document with a corresponding name at each tool save to have a visual record of what the tool is.
