What programs model 3D like ZBrush?

I’ve been using ZBrush for years and love it, but Z2 won’t run on my machine, and permanent registration is no longer available for my Z1.55 version, so I’m basically left on the side of the road to die. Since I mainly use ZBrush for modeling 3d objects, does anybody know of any affordable and similar program that allows similar modeling?

Please send an email to me. [email protected] I’ll be able to assist you.

No for the moment Zbrush is alone with this system of modeling
But sure it will be copied

Amorphium attempts to model in a similar way to Z-Brush, though last time I tried it, it was appallingly uncontrollable. I believe Maya has some tools which work in a similar way too. - Baz

Maya has always had an intergrated surfacing tool, artisan. It’s a nice tool with great control although most computers cannot handle it at all. So Zbrush is definately in the front of the game. There has been some incredible work done on artisan though.

Mister Tens - Just curious, why won’t ZB2 run on your machine?

Edit - Never mind I just read your other thread :frowning: Hope you get it sorted out!

Added note: I searched the internet last night for 3D Sculpting Programs. There’s a fairly recent one out of UK, I think, called Curvey. It’s primarily for creating 3D models, and very affordable. I decided to order it after checking out the downloadable demo. It’s not near as sophisticated as ZBrush, and much simpler. But sometimes simpler is ok too. Some of the gallery pictures’ results are very similar to those of ZBrush’s. It wouldn’t be bad to have both programs to lean on, if I can get ZBrush to work, that is.

IS that you name “Curvey” the same that Curvy3D talking above in my post ?
So you can read the commentaries

Thanks for the link!

It must be the same, Frenchy. I mispelled it. I should have typed “Curvy,” not “Curvey.” Thanks, I’ll try to look at your post about it.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Clay yet. Don’t know much about it though, or if it is actually along the lines of Zbrush even (though I think it is). Maybe somebody who is lucky enought to be trying it out might post.

nah, clay doesnt have any paint like tools like zbrush does. probably wont either for another few years.

So what is Clay exactly? If your allowed to talk about it that is (not sure if your a beta tester under NDA or something).

Amorphium3 models like clay ( not the program, actaul clay  ) kind of similar to Zbrush…only not as good. This was one of the programs that I switched to Z2 from. The “TIN” modeling room is kind of cool though, it’s more of a subd modeling tool. For me the only reason to use this program now is the Flash animation exporting for animations, it’s a nice feature. Good luck, I hope you eventually get Zbrush working again!

Zeddicus - I’m sure Ambient isn’t allowed to say anything about Clay but from what I’ve been able to piece together from Beta testers comments it seems to be a conventional SubD modeller. It has no interface to speak of (there are one or two screengrabs floating about the web!) so it probably works on contextual menus/shortcuts.

About the only comment I’ve read from the beta testers is that it’s fun to use and has become their first choice when modelling so it must be pretty special!

Sadly it’s a long way from public release :frowning:

I’d love to get my hands on it! - Baz

Clay hompage

all i can say to clay (i am curoius)
but i saw this:
"It runs on Windows, Mac (Osx), SGI(Irix) and Linux - All in C/C++ with OpenGL "

yeah thats programming!

About Clay
In Fance we have a word for that : it’s “L’Arlesienne” [ from Carmen by Bizet I suppose]
It’s something that talking a lot of but never seen
