What does "Undo History > Compression" and "Undo History > Reserved Undo Memory" do?

Neither of these are in the zbrush documentation. Does anyone know exactly what they do?

How does “Compression” compare to the “Optimize” Feature?

Also what happens if I go passed the max 10,000 limit of undo history??? Is there a way to set it to infinite?

Compression is when saving your project file to disk - the undo history is compressed to save disk space. So turning it on will mean you get a smaller project file but saving will likely take longer.

Optimize is for during a ZBrush session. Turning Optimize on will increase the number of undos that ZBrush can store but you may see a lag between sculpting strokes. So turn it off if it impacts performance.

Reserved Undo Memory ensures a set portion of RAM memory is available for storing undos. It is best to leave this setting where it is as setting to a high value can impact on ZBrush performance.

The 10,000 limit of undo history is per subtool. This is a theoretical maximum and ZBrush will only save that number if the memory and scratch disk space is available. There is no way to exceed that maximum. Project files can get huge - GBs! - if a lot of undo history is stored. It is better to save incremented versions of your work as separate files rather than relying on undo history. (That’s good policy anyway in case a file gets corrupted for some reason.)

THANK YOU MARCUS!!! Extremely helpful!
