…and they ain’t pretty. But the one on the right can get a little pushy so I have no choice but to post them for your perusal :p.
These are all 2-4 hour Zbrush sketches of heads that I created yesterday and today. I started with a simple base mesh in 3D Studio Max 7 (I’m still not totally comfortable with Zspheres, etc.) and then it’s all Zbrush from there on out. Since I wanted to create a good volume of work (I always get bogged down in the details) rather than one super super polished piece I left the subdivision levels reasonably low so I wouldn’t spend all my time on the little details. I do think, however, that it would be fun to go back in at some point with a bunch of alpha brushes and really make them shine.
The rendering is all done in Zbrush as well, for the characters with variations across their skins I rendered a few different ‘passes’ and then composited them in Photoshop. For example, the one on the left was rendered as a fleshy tone, a purply tone, a diffuse low specularity bone for the tusks, and a furry pass for the hair. Then I just erased away each layer to achieve the desired effect. I also added a little extra detail into the renders with some subtle texture overlays and adjusted brightness. This saved me tons of time versus trying to do it all in a render. Hopefully it’s not considered cheating…:ex:
Anywho, thanks for looking. I think they characters are fun and, well, they’re all wrinkly because Zbrush is just so darn good at it!
(Anyone else have any entertaining head models to share?)
