Weird result when I press "Project All"

Hi Guys,

I am a beginner and following a tutorial for sculpting. I successfully sculpted the model and exported as .obj to retopolize in Maya. After re-topolizing I imported the model, increased its subdivision level to 2 and applied “Project all” to project the sculpting detail from original model to new re-topolized model but this gives me insane results. Can anybody help?

Before pressing “Project all”.

Result after pressing “Project all”.

I don’t know where I made mistake, need advise guys. Thanks in advance for your upcoming support.

project all is based on mesh size.
does your mesh fill up the window inside of tool.preview?

If it does, then the default settings for project all will usually do what you need them to.

If it is scaled all funny you can fix it using tool.deformation.unify (you might need to do this on a transpose master mesh if you have multiple subtools).

Your projection distance is set too high. You have it set to one. I rarely push it pass 0.25 and even then it can be too much. Lower your distance, maybe try 0.02 as that might be closer to the default.

Hey guys, nothing worked including reducing distance and repositioning but I have got the solution for this problem from another forum polycount.

I just flipped the normals of my retopolised model and it worked. Another solution could be I didn’t try is to use morph brush manually. By the way my issue is solved and I am happy now.

And that’s what you get for using Maya :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, I didn’t notice that part when I read your question the first time. The same thing used to happen with XSI and Max as well. It appears that the problem is still around with Maya.
Glad you got it sorted out though.

Yeh, that’s true because now I got another problem to solve in maya when I tried to extrude some edges but each edge extruded in different direction instead extrude in one direction. Maya has a lot of problems to takle.
