Weird non dynamic draw size scaling behavior

I really prefer to work with the dynamic draw size off, since I find it much more efficient and intuitive to zoom in and out of the canvas to get bigger and smaller brush strokes. There’s a really weird behavior when dynamic is turned off where my brush drastically changes size even though I didn’t zoomed in the canvas but I just rotated the model. I found that it happens when I’m working on smaller/more clustered parts of the models, such as the ears.

Here’s a video example from my reddit post

Does anyone knows why this behavior of the brush happens and how to fix it ?

Hi @samuelgariepy_art ,

I’d wonder if your model is problematically sized or drastically offset from center in the worldspace. Issues with brush sizing are frequently linked to oversized models. Indeed, if you’re finding that it’s difficult to get the correct sizing with Dynamic mode, this is often caused by working with too large of a model. The following video specifically warns about brush size issues with oversized models:

In the case of drastically oversized models, or models that have a drastic offset from center in your original, imported file, you can run into weird issues with the brush cursor changing, especially with areas that are recessed or near major overhangs.

A simple test for this is to use Tool> Deformation> Unify on the mesh and see if the issue goes away. If it does, then this was your problem.

If unifying the model does not correct the issue, please contact Support nd provide the file for examination. There are too many possible variables to do much other than speculate here
