Weird hole developed in my model

Greetings. I am completely new to 3D modeling (like, 5 days ago was my first time). I am a 2D artist, but I want to branch out and expand my options.

I started modeling a character of mine in Z Brush Core Mini. I’m enjoying it so far, very intuitive. However, a little ways in, this random hole developed on one side of the symetry line. When I try to push things around to close that hole, or “add more clay”, it essentially doesn’t affect that hole, but it will show up just fine on the opposite side of the symmetry line.

Any idea what’s going on? Is there a fix? Do I need to start over? Is my file corrupt? Any help would be much appreciated, I somewhat feel like I dived into the deep end. I’m trying to include a picture of the issue, hopefully it works.

Thanks in advance for any guidance. I’m blown away by some of the small amount of artwork I’ve seen here already!

Hi Toby,

This sometimes does happen. The way I always fix it on a symmetrical model is to just go to geometry > modify topology > mirror and weld. This will re-symmetrize your sculpt. If the symmetry is on the ‘wrong side’ and you end up with 2 holes instead, you’ll need to flip the model (deformation > mirror).

just FYI, if your model wasn’t symmetrical, the fix would be to use the close holes function (geometry > modify topology > close holes).

Hopefully this is helpful!
