Weird edgeflow problem, help!

So, This is the previous version:

And one version later this is what happened:

I dont remember doing anything to change the topology at all, ive just been sculpting, they are both the same polycount.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

J

did you delete your lower subdivisions?

I may have…Im guessing a retopologise is now in order? Had to do the body anyway but annoying il have to redo the face. I have previous saves though, is there any way to bring in an older mesh and somehow make that the lower sub-div?

try to do this. go to
tool >geometry>Reconstruct Subdiv
(you can get back your lower subdivisions but the edgeflow problem is still there)

second option is to import an older version of that model and then reproject your new mesh onto it

Damn that didnt work, any other ideas? I seem to remember there was a way to import a retopologised mesh from maya, into zbrush, and then attach that to a high sub-div model and retain the higher sub-div information. Am I mistaken?

Thanks,

J

try this.

create a duplicate of your model. do a ‘reconstruct subdiv’ action on to and get it to the lowest subdivision level.
now that you are at the lowest subdivision level, delete all higher subdivisions.
now subdivide your model as many times as you want.
finally project the details from your original model onto your new model.

  • the only way the edgeflow lines are retained is when you subdivide your model

Thanks for this, I will give it a go!

Reconstruct Subdiv doesnt give me the option of lower subdiv levels?

Ok, sorted this out with the projection technique, using an old subtool I had saved out! Thanks for the help, this technique will come in handy in the future im sure!
