Web activation server down?

Deactivated ZBrush on my MBP a few days ago and now want to activate the license on my Mac Pro, but the web activation servers appear to be down. I’ve been trying for about 20 minutes now, but no luck.
I had written down the Activation key from last time, so I tried to use that directly. But of course that doesn’t work, the code is rejected.
Why is it that every time I swap the license between my MBP and Mac Pro I get different Activation codes? Why can’t I have two permanent codes? One for each machine I use my license on. That way I don’t get caught out like I am now with unforeseen networking issues.

Stuck.

You should be able to run one license on two computers. I actually talked to Pixologic before my purchase to make sure this was okay and they said it is as long as you don’t use the same Zbrush license on both computers at the same time. I have both my home and work computer on one license. That way I don’t have to deactivate or swap licensing when I need to bring work home.

That’s correct. ZBrush may be concurrently activated on any two computers provided that both copies aren’t actually used at the same time.

Mentalfrog, Aurick, that’s really great news! I’m very pleased to hear this, as it would fit my situation perfectly. ZBrush on my Mac Pro when I’m at home, and on my MBP when I’m on the go.

Thanks guys!

Okay, so I tried running ZB on my MacBook Pro without first deactivating the license on my Mac Pro. The situation I have now is that every time I start ZB (on my MBP or MP) I have to re-activate the license. In other words, the activation is nullified when I close ZB (or when it crashes). This surely can’t be right.

There are two common causes:

  • ZBrush wasn’t installed and activated while logged in under an administrator account.
  • Permissions are wrong on ZBrush’s file system. For this, select the ZBrush OSX 4R4 folder and press Cmd+I to get info. Under the sharing and permissions section at the bottom of the window, press the padlock icon and enter your user name/password. What does it say next to the “Everyone” user group? If it does not say “Read & Write” you should change it to that. Then click the gear icon underneath and choose the option to apply to enclosed items. If it already does say “Read & Write”, change it to something else. Apply to enclosed items, then change it back to “Read & Write” before applying to enclosed items again. Now give the same treatment to the ZBrushData folder found in your Shared directories.

Between the two of these, you should be able to fix this issue. If you continue to have trouble, please submit a Support ticket at https://support.pixologic.com.
