Wasn't there a poser import zscript before R2? I don't seem to see one now.[Answered]

Someone in the renderosity forum was trying to use poser models and zbrush, and I recall Z4 coming installed with a poser import script, or some specific way to import.

Also, that same person is saying the zbrush on import now is deleting unused points. That would mean of course any morphs done with zbrush would now be broken in poser, since the point order has been changed.

Is he just doing something incorrectly, or is this now the case on obj imports?

There was a Poser Scaler plugin for ZBrush 3 but it is not necessary for ZBrush 4 and 4R2 (which have no difference for import/export) because the data is now stored more accurately and can cope with the small scale of Poser models.

ZBrush will only change a model on import if it has polygons with more than four sides (which ZBrush can’t handle) but you will get a warning message about this. I don’t understand what you mean by ‘unused points’. ZBrush doesn’t change the point order, unless you specifically ask it to using the Tool>Geometry>Optimize Point Order button.

Poser scaler is what I was thinking of.

Here’s exactly what he wrote:

I need to find a way to stop Zbrush 4R2 from automatically removing unused
vertices when I import Poser figures. I’m making JCMs for a posed, welded figure
that was exported from DS4. Its unused vertices must be retained to preserve the
vertex count so that the morphs won’t explode. Before Zbrush 4R2, you could
import objects without having the program remove the unused vertices. I guess
I’ll have to go back to version 4 to do this.

Does anyone know a way to stop 4R2 from removing used vertices on import?

I have not yet tried to duplicate his issue here.

I told him he really should be posting questions like that here, in case its a new bug thats cropped up.

OK, I understand what an ‘unused vertex’ is now - it is a vertex that is not referenced by any of the faces. ZBrush 4R2 has various enhancements that have been introduced to avoid problems with meshes and I guess removing unused vertices is one of them.

It should be possible to write a plugin that puts the unused verts back in. I’ll have a look when I’ve a moment. In the meantime you will need to used ZBrush 4 if you are using meshes with unused verts.

HTH,

Thanks! Good to know there’s a possible solution in the works!

When you export a body part from Daz Studio 4 to make a morph, that body part it is written with all vertices and when you import it into Zbrush all that vertices are deleted. Such morph won’t work at all. It would be great to have a choice to not use this ‘delete unused vertices’ option in Zbrush. Can’t wait for some script to resolve this issue.

Marcus: Any update on the potential cure to this issue?

I’ve not forgotten about this but have been short of time lately. I will try and look at it this weekend.

Thanks much. I know yer busy, but figured if you are like me, you are juggling so many projects that its easy to have one slip through the cracks.

Beta version (Windows only at the moment) here:

Awesome! Thank for not forgetting us!
