Warblade...WIP

Hey Everyone,

This is the first time I am posting in a long time. Got inspired to model Warblade from Wildcats. Still in progress, trying to figure out pose before I finish the sculpt and details. So far the poses are transpose only with just a few little fixes.

Enjoy

looks like a good start. keep refining those forms and the anatomy. keep posting updates man

I like what you have so far, looks really nice. If I remember correctly, Warblade was a little thicker, not lean as you have it. But that was probably Liefield’s version I remember or more of a stylistic choice. It would be nice to know for a newbie like me how you do the changes from the metal in the arms and such) to flesh. I am really interested in how to do hard surface modelling. Now to add the huge amount of hair that guy had and some textures and it will be great!

AWESOME!! I loved that character from Wildcats. Jim Lee rocks. Please dont stop working on this one. Might want to use the pose from issue 4

DAnconia…you wouldn’t happen to have those issues of Wildcats laying around? All my comics are boxed away in storage and I’vev been going on thumbnails that I found online. I’m not quite sure what his back looks like.

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone.

I got every one that Jim Lee did. After that Booth guy took over i stopped collecting.

I think my next sculpt will be the guys from Wetworks. Ralph Stumpfs bronze material would be perfect for that.

What do you need? Some scans of his back?

I actually got to hang out with Jim during this past Wondercon last month. He’s a great guy…inspired me finish this model which I started to make when Z3 came out.

A good front and back of his torso head area would be great!

thanks DAnconia

Didnt have a chance this weekend bro. Been super busy with music and my other ventures. Ill do my best to get these samples posted tonight if not tomorrow night.

No Worries DAnconia, I picked up a WildCATs graphic novel and got all the ref I need.

Here is an update on the head and the hoses on his chest.

Thanks for the comments folks.

I’ve uploaded a short video of the shoulder region being transposed. This topology for the back seems to work real well for both topological masking and transposing the region in a natural way with very little clean up required.

That is looking really great! As a newblet, I would love to know how you get the perfect lines that serperate the metal around the arms. I assume its crease and an alpha maybe. Also, how do you achieve the smoothness in the metal areas?

Thanks for sharing your work!

Patrick

Hey ESO i searched through my collection and could only find like 2 issues!!! I know i had the full collection so now i have to track them all down. I only saw one drawing and im sure you have it as well.

wow! i really im a fan of Warblade! great model!

I’m no expert on anatomy, but doesn’t his fingers seem a little long?.

Oh I’m kidding!!

It’s awesome. Great work, eso!

Patrick, The grooves on his body for the metal region were all hand painted mask lines that I inverted and applied a negative inflate on. Seemed the only way I could do it. I also tried to closely follow the topology lines so I would not get much pixelation.

DAnconia, No problem…thanks for looking. I actually got someone to ask him how the back is supposed to look…and apparently there are three different ways.

Alex, thanks for the comments…I really like your work…that Hulk looks great!

Almost forgot…Patrick…for the metal areas, I use a technique similar to filling a hole in a wall. I basically add volume to a dented area with the clay brush then smooth over it. That way the smooth brush doesn’t flatten out the area I am trying to fix. The crisp lines on his jawline were just that technique followed by flatten brush and then pinching the edge.

In the final pose…but still have to work on adjusting the anatomy a little more and adding some more details and parts.
