wacom tablets...

Hey i know there are other threads about tablets but i have read much about that many use graphire, and aint bamboo the new graphire? so as an amateur modeller who only do it on his freetime wouldnt it be good to start with bamboo and upgrade if it is necessary further ahead?

i have heard that zbrush dont really need all that sensitivity?

Honestly when it comes to tables everybody is gonna tell you to go for an Intuos. They are by a far stretch the best bang for buck tables. They are also the most expensive bar the Cintiq range. The only thing I can say is that if its your first tablet just get whatever one you want. If you like it and your hobby grows or becomes a profession then you’ll have a great idea of what to upgrade to.

I use a Graphire 4 A5 at home and an Intuos 3 A6 at work and the Intuos is superior in every way.

Although technically speaking there’s no doubt Intuos is superior, I would say for the casual hobbyist, graphire is plenty good.

I successfully worked for many years as a pro colourist in comics, the entire time with an old 100$ graphire. Also did a lot of zbrush tinkering with it as well. In both photoshop/painter and zbrush, there was never a time when i thought “man i wish i had an intuos, this sucks”. I upgraded to an intuos only this year, because I had the extra money.

So to answer your question, Graphire (or whatever it’s called now) is fine for the tight budget individual. I would only tell a profesionnal to get an intuos, because a pro can afford it, and pros need to invest in their tools.
