wacom tablet questions.

Hi

I am thinking of buying a wacom tablet I have read up a little bit about them but am unsure of some things, like what is the main differrence between graphite and intous? I see alot of zbrush users use a intous 3 but they cost $700 which I cant really afford, what tablet would you recommned for $150 $250? I will be mainly be using it for zbrush and photoshop.

If these cheaper tablets arent worth getting would I be better off using a mouse?
Also I use a 19" and 17" lcd dual view, what size would you recommned?

thanks heaps.

Check out the smallest Intous 3.
I got mine at circuit city on sale for 175.00

I had slight jitter and drop problems with it on my PC and dreaded the purchase of my intuos as it performed worse than my 50$ one it should replace… TILL some very helpful forum member pointed out that when you open the tablet properties from the control panel (PC) and you double click on the tablet that you can switch from Standard Mode to Recognition Data mode… Since I did that, the tablet is a dream. Don’t ask me WHAT the heck that mode does. But it works with ZBrush like a charm (and everything else as well). Maybe that helps you with your purchase if you do it.

Do a little search, several threads already exist on this topic. Any model will help you, each model just has a few extras to make life easier, if you intend to use them. You can’t go wrong with any Wacom model. If you want advice, buy the Cintiq and work directly. But if $700 scares you, don’t even look at the price of the Cintiq!!!

I never noticed any jitter in mine, but I just switched it anyway to see what for.

I had those ‘droppings’. When you started a new line, or ended one, or you scaled something, once in a while a big glitch ruined what I just did. And I was not the only one. That advice was great!

I have found a WACOM intuos2 9x12 TABLET for $295 2nd hand.

It is a 9pin serial port is this a bad thing compared to usb?

Am I going to notice a difference performance wise

Has anyone had any issues with this particluar model in zbrush?

cheers.

Since it uses serial, I’m assuming it is reeeeally old! Not sure about it’s performance though…

Don’t go serial, drivers are going to be out of date and hard to get running.

you could also buy a ‘factory reconditioned’ one direct from WACOM, they are reasonably priced too, the Graphires arent bad, the Intuos{the smaller ones} are pretty reasonable as well.

The reconditioned ones are just perfect if your on a budget and theres nothing wrong with them since they have new parts/guts
