Wacom Pen Tablet with Zbrush or Scupltris Video Tutorial?

Hi, everyone, my first post  , I just bought a wacom intous5 pen tablet. I was looking for a tutorial on how to use this with zbrush and Sculptris?

Everyone seems to suggest it’s better to work with a tablet. I seem to be comfortable with my keyboard for quick tool selection along with mouse for navigation/using tools/features and basic sculpting. Although I do believe the pen tablet may be an advantage for sculpting alone. Was wondering if this is the main purpose behind the tablet since it lacks all the shortcuts a keyboard offers or do you professionals utilize the tablet for all features within these programs?

So would there be a video out there explaining how use a pen tablet with Zbrush, and possibly set up default key configurations for using the tablet buttons and some sculpting examples.

I basically can’t figure out how to smooth or invert brush mode, I assumed the buttons on the pen would be defaults for these functions. Pressure sensitivity works but it’s very weird. I picked up mouse sculpting fairly easy. All in all I find it very awkward experience, I’m surprised there’s no Pen Tablet tutorial under getting started section of ZClassroom. I’m hoping there’s one somewhere around here, and that you guys can point me and future users to it. Thanks

I apologize if posting in the wrong thread, I assume the tutorials thread was made for tutorial submissions.

Hi and welcome to ZBrush Central

This is definately the right forum for asking questions. I don’t really ever remember seeing any tutorials on how to use your tablet with ZBrush. Basically, the only difference between a mouse and a tablet is pressure sensitivity and that is a big plus for sculpting in ZBrush. If your using a pen and you want to smooth, just hold down Shift key while using your pen. As far as invert brush mode, the Alt key is used for that while using your pen and in fact is used to invert a lot of other functions in ZBrush as well. You can also use the eraser on your pen for the inverse of brushes. As far as ZBrush settings for your tablet go, the defaults work pretty well. You can assign Alt and Shift keys to your tablet buttons. The Touch ring is usually used for changing the brush size. One thing for sure, you can’t beat a tablet for organic sculpting in ZBrush. Hope this helps you a little bit at least.

Also, here is something that might interest you, and this.

thanks allot zber2. It helped allot, it framed the idea behind how to use the tablet. I didn’t expect to use the keyboard along with the tablet. I’m left handed when it comes to using a pen :frowning: You can understand how that would mess up using the keyboard at the same time  Because of this I place my keyboard in between the monitor and the tablet which is in front of me. It feels cluttered and not very intuitive. It didn’t occur to me that “Righthanders” can just put it where the mouse used to be

I didn’t realize there was no preset mapping configurations for a situation like mine, or perhaps popular configurations artist use in the industry for different programs or workflows.

Just realized you can’t load preset configurations in Zbrush or the tablet properties control panel. That’s odd since it takes awhile to setup the keys, touch ring, and radial menus. I think it would be a good idea for future update that Zbrush along with other companies working with wacom to implement presets for their respective programs.

I guess trial n error from scratch to see what works best. thanks a bunch
