Wacom Intuos Pro Tablet issues

I am a new use of Zbrush R8 and have been convinced by many of you ZBrush artists that having a tablet is the best way forward, so not wanting to be left behind I purchased one. Since then I have spent many hours trying to get it to work, despite both Wacom and Pixologic support no one had been able to resolve the issues. Namely these are trying to make the pen do basic functions like zoom using Ctrl and right click, this works for a few moments and only works again if you restart Zbrush!

Zbrush I am know told after doesn’t support hand gestures or the touch ring, so as yo can imagine its very disappointing, I would love to know if anyone else is having issues or been able to resolve them if they did.

Support have told me that I am the only person with this issue?

I use a new windows 10 PC, 30gb Ram, 1TB SSD and the latest processor.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

My two cents: Hand gestures and the touch ring on the pro tablet are pretty useless for actual work. They just slow you down. They’re kind of okay for browsing your pc/the internet and convenient for some photoshop commands but beyond that they have no use. I also never use the eraser on the pen. And I find the buttons on the tablet itself unresponsive so also useless.

As for your control issues, my pen works the same as my mouse so I can’t be of much help. I’ve never had any problems setting it up. I have my touch settings disabled. My middle click is mapped to the lower part of the thumb button and my right click is on the top part of the same button. I also have my tip double click distance slider set to off. Might not be very helpful.

Hi Jack huge thanks for your feedback, sadly I was coming to the same conclusion, not all that its cracked up to be! Forgive this basic question, you use the pen to sculpt, how do you work with your keyboard given the tablet is in front of you. Its very natural to use the pen, but interacting with the keyboard seems like learning the piano? Any tips on how you work with this?

When it comes to the keyboard, one thing that will help is to understand that the most used hotkeys for ZBrush are set up to be readily used by your left hand. Move, Scale, Rotate, changing between editing modes, smoothing, masking, the Brush palette, etc. are all there on the left side of the keyboard.

Some of the commands do take a little practice to perform smoothly by muscle memory but it’s a quick learning curve. Once you have it, you’ll find that you can interact with your model very naturally.

Aurick, thanks for the advice, I will have a go and the see where I get to.

I use a small wireless keyboard and have it beside the tablet.

Thanks, I think that is the way to go, my desk is shrinking by the day! I thought technology was supposed to reduce clutter!?
