Wacom Bamboo good enough for the beginning?

Hello everyone,
I’m using the ZBrush trial version right now and I’m almost done with the ZClassroom tutorials. I wanna try some real sculpting soon but I guess sculpting kind of sucks without pressure levels (well it seems uncomfortable to me) so I am thinking about buying a graphic tablet. Of course I could also buy a Intuos 4 tablet but I’d like to start with a cheap tablet if it is good enough. If the pressure levels of a Bamboo would be enough for sculpting then I wouldn’t waste money and could save some money for a Cintiq later on if I really like sculpting (well I guess so can’t stop doing any 3D related stuff :D).

Does anybody have experience with the Wacom Bamboo tablet? What size would you suggest? There are A6 and A5 I guess. A6 is too small, isn’t it?

Bamboo Fun (the best one) has 512 pressure levels. Is this enough?

Hi accesoire, I have the cheapest and smallest Wacom Bamboo graphic tablet.
I´ve never had any problems with it. It works fine!
But truth be told – I´ve never touched any other “better” graphic tablet.
Mabye others will help you to come to a decision.
I think a Bamboo is a good choice – but it´s your call.
If you have no talent a cintiq won´t help you and you could use a toothbrush instead of the graphic tablet pen as well. Heh heh.

any product from wacom is great for sculpting, drawing, painting, etc. I personally have an intous3 9x12. I have used all of their stuff. The bamboo’s are great for a starter tablet. Their cheap, so if you end up not liking it, you’re not out a ton of money (easy to sell too). And if you upgrade to a bigger tablet later you can have one you keep in your bag for when you’re on the go.

I personally don’t like the cintique versions myself. Years of working with a tablet has gotten me used to having a great view of my screen and being able to draw (your hand doesn’t get in the way with a tablet).

But eh, Just my 2cents.

the Intuos 4 has 2048 pressure levels (Cintiq has 1024), a drawing surface that feels very close to real pen and paper sketching, and programmable buttons with an LED screen to remind you what they do.

the size you should get depends on how you like to draw, with your wrist, or with your shoulder. i don’t like anything above a medium, but some people like the big ones.

i’m not trying to convince you to get an Intuos 4, i just know a few things about them because i’ve been looking at getting a medium one. ultimately, you should buy zbrush before you buy a tablet, so get zbrush first then look at what you can afford. zbrush is doable with a mouse, it’s just not ideal.
