Vista bug with Wacom & ZB3...(pen & input devices)

I’m using Vista home premium via Bootcamp on my Macpro but every time I hold the stylus pen on the model to paint or tweak a circle appears then selects the brush size panel…

How do I turn it off it’s sooooooooooooo bloody annoying!!!

It’s a Vista setting, but it really messes with ZB3…

Ok, I’ve found the issue, it’s Vistas Press & hold settings for tablet PC’s & input devices…

The problem is if you disable it, it messes with ZB3’s display making it totally unusable…

The only option is to have the duration & speed set to max, but it still kicks in after a few seconds…

It’s totally crap, & totally spoils ZB’s workflow, it stinks…

Here’s the setting I’m using. I had a similar problem with Photoshop when I switched to vista. Since I switched to this it works very smoothly. Basically it just involves switching off the press and hold functions from the control panel. Hope it helps.

When I switch off the press & hold ZB is unusable as the display breaks up when sculpting, it may be a Bootcamp issue but I doubt it…

Thanks anyway fella, good to know it’s not just affecting me…

Hi, Buckie, you need the latest wacom driver. (the Windows Consumer Tablet Driver 5.03-3 I think) or above. This is a known problem within the wacom driver that some programs need to have the hold to right click feature disabled, while letting other programs that can use the feature to still have it enabled.

From wacom:
Notes for Windows Vista:
-On Windows Vista, installation of the driver will activate the new pen input functions available within Vista and Office 2007 (see www.wacom.com/vista/VistaPenExperience.pdf for details).

-The Vista Flicks and Press-and-hold-to-right-click features are disabled in most graphics applications (all that use the Wintab API). This is a workaround to improve drawing performance in these applications when those features are on.

-There is no pressure sensitivity in Journal and other Vista Ink features when both Flicks and Press-and-hold-to-right-click are disabled in the Vista “Pen and Input Devices” control panel. This is a workaround for spurious double-clicks issued by Vista under that setting.

I downloaded the driver today so I guess it’s the latest but I will check…

Here’s a short movie of the screen when press & hold is disabled on my system…

Are you guys getting this???

Love the vid.
Anyway, that is how the bug look like with the older driver. There’s no workaround other than to disable click and hold or upgrade to the latest driver with the workaround applied. Or disable click and hold altogether. I think it was meant for those pens with no buttons in the barrel anyway.

Also, I noticed that you have that disappearing thing when you brush it. Is this what happened (the display breaking down) when you disable the click and hold? (you still got that round click-hold thing on the vid, apparently?) If it’s not due to the vidcap, this seems to be a known bug with ZB. (though I’m not sure 'cause it don’t effect my machine) You need to enable quick and dirty edit for the fix:

I definitely never got that one. Looks like a video issue to me. My problem had to do with accidental double clicking of the pointer and automatically opening menus occasionally.

The dissapearing only happens with the tablet, if I sculpt with the mouse its fine so that rules out the video card I guess…

The dissapearing thing only happens when I switch off press & hold, I will try a newer driver today & see what happens, many thanks guys… :+1:

Kramskoi I had your issue but when I switched the press & hold thing off I got this new one…

Hi Buckie, I was also tearing my hear out after installing Vista and the Wacom drivers. Apparently Vista has pen functionality built into all versions (much like the Tablet PC editions of XP). This however conflicts with the wacom drivers resulting in a sort of double driver issue. After browsing the Wacom forums I found a solution that works for me (Vista Ultimate 64 bit)

Go to the windows Control Panel (not the wacom)

Select System and Maintenance.

Select Device Manager.

Under Human Interface Devices disable the Wacom Virtual Hid Driver.

This will disable the windows part of the tablet driver and allow the Wacom driver to work as it should. The tablet will work like in XP except that Vista PenEnabled programs lose their tablet functionality.

Edit: If you reinstall Vista at some time try turning off Tablet PC Optional Components before installing the Wacom driver. That should give you a pure XP experience. Look under Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows Features On/Off.

Thanks TVeyes, the new wacom driver seems to have done the trick though, but a good back up plan is always handy…

I am actually using ZB3 now, which is only the second time since release…

Oh man, THANK YOU TVeyes! I just updated the drivers for my Cintiq running on XP 64bit and that push to pop-up right click menu was really causing problems while sculpting in ZBrush…disabling the HID Driver did the trick

I don’t recall having that menu popping up before, maybe they added it in the newest release?
