viewport lighting issue...please help.

Ladies and gents,

This is my second SMax > ZBrush project. On my first model that I pushed through ZBrush, I did not experience this problem. Things went fine.

As the pic will show, my viewport is flat. I can’t see any shadows or specular highlights.

My regular dummy light is on. I went up and checked it. I can’t figure out what the problem is. I can’t work until I can see something more than a silhouette. Argh!

Please help, I’ve wasted my whole day trying to figure this out.

There are two likely possibilities:

  • You accidentally turned on Render>Flat. This activates a no-shadows, no-materials mode. Check to make sure that Render>Preview is active.
  • You drew the model on the canvas with Zadd turned off. Try the following: Press T to exit edit mode, then Ctrl+N to clear the canvas. In the Draw palette, make sure Mrgb and Zadd are both active. Then draw your model again and press T to return to edit mode.

The first possibility, I had already checked…but the second; your second recommendation did the trick! You are so excellent. Thank you.

I drew the model on the canvas with ZAdd turned off…hmmm…I’ll have to research that so I don’t do it again…
