View Blur for sighting value - VIDEO

Hello All,

I haven’t posted in a long time. been busy finishing my new book and moving house and all. I’m putting together the DVD files for the book now and I thought I might share this little video on view blur. View Blur is a well hidden feature in ZBrush 3.5 that can be helpful for sighting shadow value on the surface of your sculpt. Consider it a digital “squint.” : ) It may save some wrinkles round the eyes in years to come : D

I hope you enjoy the video.

Hey thanks for taking your time to point that out. God knows some of us can use all the help we can get. lol
Thanks again.

Hello Scott!!! How’s NZ!!! And thank you for the great tip on ViewBlur tool…very useful indeed.

Scott: Glad to hear everything is going good, wish you the best on the new book and your move. Appreciate the info on the viewblur, will have to check it out. Though, I think the best part of the video is hearing a pro talk about the importance of contour shapes in conjunction with details. A lot of zbrush works have a tremendous amount of details, the really great ones have a pleasing harmony of both shape and details that give relevance to the shape. As you said you hear a lot of that in 2d art, “simplify… simplify… simplify” is a quote I remember all too well. Usually if you have to have one or the other shape/form>details. Especially now with the new zsketch tool for 3.5, so easy to get carried away with details in anatomy that may not be necessary for the end result as I experienced on my last zsketch. Though it is great fun. Anways thanks for sharing :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:.

hey scott!

thanks for showing this. i wasn’t aware of that feature. surely gonna try it out.
looking forward to your new book. “creature creation” sure was good.

Hey, thanks for the tip Scott. Very helpful, seems there are a few extra goodies people aren’t aware of in 3.5 :+1:

Thanks guys,

I am glad you find the video helpful. It was a little addition I recorded and figured I would share it here since the feature is pretty cool and so well hidden.

rasmusW: Thank you! I’m glad you liked the book. I hope the new one is helpful as well - its been a long time in the writing

AngelJ: Cheers! Thats the thing isnt it, avoiding the details. I always have to step back myself and remember not to get lost in the parts and reexamine the big picture.

SolidSnakexxx: Hey Man! Thanks for the kind words. NZ is amazing beyond belief

Scott

so awesome man
and good luck
since i was in Canada when u released ur 1st zbrush book …i went to buy it
but since i’m in Cairo , Egypt now …i don’t think i can get my own version

anyways, good luck and thx brow

Thanks for the tip!

cool video.

I got your character creation book and I found little tips like this to most interesting. Can’t wait for the new book!

thanks for sharing scott i also didn’t know that tool , pretty usefull

somehow i came about this naturally over the years, what’s weird is i don’t squint, i just blur my vision somehow. lol.
it is a neat feature to have though, thanks for the vid.

This is a very very good thing.

It easier on the eyes. And you don’t lose intensity as you do when you squint a lot.

Thanks the video showing your workflow. You are definitely a ZB master that I have been growing from the knowledge you share.

AVTPro: Thanks for the kind words man  I’m glad you find the video useful - its a cool little feature and one day I would like to do a life sculpting session with ZBrush and try it there. Zack Petroc runs a ZBrush class in Studio City that uses a live model. I sat in on it once and it was a really stellar experience.

spaceboy412: Thats so cool, you have bionic eyes : )

EvilSmiley:Cheers man, I am trying to put some more little tips like that in the new book. It has a lot of workflow tips on how I like to work the surface of a sculpt using masks and altering the smooth and clay brushes. Hopefully it will come in handy

Awesome tip, thanks a bunch!

Can’t wait, I’ll be keeping an eye out for it that’s for sure. (will it be out before xmas…just wondering in case I need to leave a slot open on my list :stuck_out_tongue: )

This is something I started to think lately, the blur tip for the references. It really push you to the right direction, this is a very precious tip both for beginners and for experienced zbrushers!
Now that you “discover” this hidden feature in zb3.5 the whole concept could be applied to the sculpting too and since I used it really changed my way of sculpt…
So thank you very very much Scott

Thank you so much for showing this great and somewhat hidden tool. fantastic tip. :+1:

excellent video Scott:+1:

Wow thanks for the tip Scott! I’m looking forward to the new book. Your first book is definitely the go to guide for digital sculpting in Zbrush, can’t wait to see what’s new in the next one.
