hola, zbrushers!

my name is jason findley, i am a recent vancouver film school graduate, and this is my 2007 demo reel.

i primarily used xsi (modeling, rigging, rendering), mudbox (initial sculpt), zbrush (detailing and textures), and photoshop (texturing).

my interest lies in character modeling. whether it be film, games, toys, or tv.

not bad work man… quite good… but it would help to see wireframes and all that… they might be there… but your video stuttered so much on both my systems I could not tell lol

Awesome stuff!
Both of them.
But isn’t Hellboy supposed to be a little bit more red in color?

HI Jason,
I haven’t downloaded your show reel yet, but I am impressed by the two images you have uploaded here. My name is Neeraj, and I work as an art director in an advertising agency in Delhi, India. I read that you graduated from VFS. I was contemplating doing the 3d animation course there, but The cost involved is a bit daunting. So, I am wondering if I should teach myself modeling and animation using tutorials etc. I’ve always been drawing, specially on science fiction themes.I sarted learning ZBrush just 2 months back and its been a revelation of sorts.
I was hoping you could advise me on how I should go about learning 3d ( specially modeling and animation ), and whether it is possible for me to learn on my own and find a job in a game or animation studio in Canada or USA. I am already 28, and have been working for the past 4 years in advertising, but the pull of creating in 3d is to strong to resist. Do advise.
Bye,Neeraj.

I think you´ve done a perfect job! Nice work! (Cant wait to go to VFS jaja  )

i agree about the wireframe issuse, it’s a bit fast and difficult to see. You also should include one with the crabman. Besides that, i think the spec on the crab is a bit much in some places making it seem a little to plasitcy and not so exoskeleton like. Other than that, great work!

its awesome, who cares about a wireframe

warpy - who cares? EVERYONE in game studios or animation studios. They want to check topology and polycount.

Nice job Jason,

I was following your post on CG Talk. Really good work here man. I really like how you found matching music to theme the character.

One tip I would give, show the gun alone also. That is a nice model too and it shows off your mechanical modeling skills too. Since you are showcasing only two models you could add a little more depth to your demo reel this way.

Like the Blur guy said on CGtalk…send it to Blur man!

Great work! ignore the cynics. :+1: :warning:

Great materials & textures on these models, and i love that Hellboy…but to me it looks like he has got two corks in his head instead of horns !..must be the combination of the Horn-texture and that thin band of skin around it .

jantim

As I told you on CGTalk… Very Good Works…

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Great job indeed. I would also love to see the wireframes

thanks for all the comments.

Altermind: unfortunately i don’t have any of the wires for crabman on this computer. and, i’m driving back to austin w/ all my stuff from vancouver tomorrow. so, it may take me a week or so. but, here’s what i have for hellboy.

Svet_P: all a matter of lighting, monitor calibration, and taste.

moonlitmaverick: well, that’s a really tough question. not knowing you or your apptitude, i can’t really make a judgement call. all i can tell you is that i don’t think i learned anything that isn’t in at least one of the many forums, training dvd’s, or books available. but, i couldn’t have done this w/o taking a year off to work on my art, and being surrounded by talented and knowledgeable people to help me do it.

Nintendome20: good luck.

veedubb: i’ll refer you to the statement i made to “Altermind”. and, i agree w/ you about crabman. except, i don’t think it’s the spec (he’s supposed to look wet). but rather it’s the broadness of the rim light. i should have narrowed it more. live and learn.

McGergs: that was the intention of the 4th shot. i’m curious why that didn’t satisfy.

jantim: i was so worried someone was going to point out the horns. thankfully, you’re the first one.
