Very Basic Question

What is the difference between a “3-D Primitive” and a “PolyMesh 3D” object ?

I’m not asking how to use them, I’m confused about object types in ZBrush in general - this being a basic example.

They are both “meshes” because I can reveal the mesh in both types with “Line Fill Poly F”. What’s the difference other than I can obviously sculpt on one and not the other ? Why are there two different kinds of “meshed” objects ?

Thank You

Hello @starlite

Primatives are comprised of mathematical data only. That data can be manipulated in the “Tool > Initialize” subpalette before it is made into a Polymesh3D. Once it is made into a Polymesh3D, the Initialize subpalette changes to accomodate 3D editable objects.

HI ZBER2,

Thanks very much for the response !

All meshed “objects” are defined by mathematical data. ZBrush is displaying “3D-Primitives” as objects defined by mathematical data, and it is displaying “PolyMesh 3D” objects defined by mathematical data too.

I’m not really looking for information on how to use them - I can see that in the documentation and tutorial videos - what I want to know is what is the difference between them ? Why are there two different types of objects, defined by mathematical data, represented as meshes in the display ?

Thanks You,
Russ
