Vertex stuck on sharp points of model and only get worse when smoothing

Hi, I’m having an issue after modeling a dynamesh out and then converting to a polymesh, where the sharper sculpted points on the mesh do not respond to smoothing. The vertices on the tips of thin points only seem to get worse when trying to correct. I can move them but it still will not respond to other brushes. All of the vertices around it seem to react accordingly though. Is this a result of dynamesh? Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t recall encountering this in the past? Couldn’t find anything on this phenomenon on google either.

Thanks

that part has a broken section from the dynamesh function. Just move that vert down using the move brush until it is a little inside the horn/spike area and then dynamesh the mesh again.

I thought that would work, but I’ve not been having much luck on my end

how to fix it.jpg

hey thanks for the reply. I’m somewhat relieved this isn’t an isolated problem… Your solution does work but only when in dynamesh mode. I’ve already converted the geometry from dynamesh to a polymesh and have subdivision levels with additional details on it now. If I switch back to dynamesh I lose those subdivisions and therefore details I’ve worked into the model. Is there any way to fix the broken vertices without converting back to dyna?? Or would I still have to dynamesh to fix and then project the details onto the mesh?

if you control + drag outside your model when in dynamesh mode, buttercup, it should update your mesh with new polys

You can also use clipping brushes to snip these little ends off.

I figured I would follow up with what worked, it was in the Geometry menu, I found the Close Holes option. Since I rarely tunnel through a model completely, it helps.

I also had to use masking and smoothing as well, but I find with the clipping brushes, they really bunch up the geometry into these sharp ugly points that are hard to fix in Dynamesh. I don’t have any image on me, but it pulls the points strangely and sharply like the Planar brush at a bad angle.

DarkBahamut: I don’t know much but it was Masks and Polygroups that saved me from changing the wrong region.

I think with Zbrush, it is normal to have to undergo what’s called retopology but I am no expert on that… basically going into another program and fixing things you can’t in Zbrush.

Buttercup - You never actually need another program when working in Zbrush. Some things another application can do “better” but are few things (in terms of modeling) that Zbrush can’t achieve, and typically way faster than another application.
