Venom Project

Sketchfab Model : https://sketchfab.com/stecgartist

Zbrush sculpted model completed for CPD. The project was inspired by my youngest son who loves all things spiderman and a good friend who recently completed a project inspired by his own son. The concept was inspired by Venom, the spiderman antihero. I wanted to implement a design that held true to the original characters design with some added extras such as the glowing eyes and an alternative colour scheme. I also adapted some of the characters featured to portray Venoms’ more sinister side. All this had to be okayed by the stand-in art director, my son!

The model was created within Zbrush. I used dynamesh to initially conceive the idea, then retopologized using Zremesher. I did not retop manually because the project aims were to improve my high-resolution sculpting abilities within Zbrush. The lower mesh model idea came a little later when discussing video games with my son. I also made the normal, diffuse and other texture maps in Zbrush. I did have some issues with the model’s seams and only managed to get them slightly visible. This was down to how I subdivided it within Zbrush when building up the models’ details. Some additional software was used for photomanipulation of the textures and unwrapping because of personal preference. I was also eager to test the model’s compatibility within Adobes Maximo, which did a fairly decent job with the rig and animation, however, there are some noticeable skinning problems within the hands and head areas of the model.

Further developments could help me develop some high resolution renders as I still have a higher resolution mesh. There are also some minor detailing issues that I could try to improve on the sculpture itself. Overall I am happy with the results Feedback and thoughts are welcomed.
