Vector mask (alpha mask) editting via ZappLink, Photoshop etc.

Hola,

Would the photoshop method of editing vector masks be the way to go because from my understanding one can use vectors as masks in a layer of Photoshop (with your 3d object via zBrush and zApplink or just importing the object directly in Photoshop). Control of the vector art is what I’m after here. It would be nice if someone would chime in on this methodology (being able to “pick up” or “re-edit” the vector mask in Photoshop on a ZappLink mesh or an imported 3d object).

This would obviously be used as an alpha in zBrush. Just want to be able to get precision detailed masks.

thx

Not sure if this helps or not but I have used ZApplink and photoshop along with the pen tool many times before.

There is a way in ZApplink to store a camera position, if you do this you can always go back to that projection if need be.

Once in PS you will have to save a copy of your temp PS file to save it if you need to come back to it at a late time.

Once in PS I just use the Pen tool as usual to build my vector shape, once the shape is done you can either use it as color or a Stencil/mask in ZBrush.

If you want to make a stencil just make an alpha channel and name it “Stencil.” (I believe that this is correct) Now when you go back to ZBrush it will automatically set up a stencil for you.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

As long as it allows me to edit the original mask (vector mask) in Photoshop then this sounds like it will work for me.

It’d be cool if there was an actual vector brush.

Thoughts?

PS. Does anyone know what vector displacement is and can zBrush do this?
