If only UV texturing were as easy as it seems in ZBrush when you’re using the MatCap tool. But for all who aspire to professionalism we’re forced to deal with all the elaborate strategems of UV mapping in Maya or some other 3d program. Personally I love Maya but it’s interface and tools seem to be falling behind the times. Zbrush is so progressive I wish they’d come along and steal Autodesk’s lunch on this.
I’ve been doing UV tutorials for Maya, and none seem to offer intuitive mastery of UV mapping that will lead to the kind of fluid work approach I desire. So I started looking at Deep Paint and Bodypaint 3D. So far Maxon’s BodyPaint 3d looks like the best there is but what do I know? It’s certainly got a stiff learning curve with few tutorial resources available. Just one out of date video for version 2 when it’s now version 3 and much different in appearance.
So what does the ZBrush Central brain trust have to say on this? Where should I be looking? What is the holy grail of fluid intuitive texturing and painting in 3D?
