UV Map and Polygroups

Hi to everybody,
I would like to create a simple clothes, a very simple shirt for Victoria 4.
From Poser I import Victoria 4 to Zbrush with all her polygroups on, then I extract my shirt from Victoria 4 body.
I export my shirt as an obj with all polygroups on, I dont want export as a single polygroup cause I have to import it back to Poser, give it rig in setup room, make my shirt a conforming clothes, to do that I need the original polygroups apply.

Cause I would like to texture my shirt I need uv map so, still in Zbrush, I can generate it by UV Master plugin.

Let assume that I would like generate my shirt uv map in another application, 3ds max as exp.

My shirt is ready in Zbrush, I export it to 3ds max, as told I export it with all the polygroups on cause I need them as told, I end up in 3ds Max with my shirt, an object made by multy mesh, one mesh for each polygroups, all those mesh with unwelded vertex overlapping where they meet, where the polygropus meet.

How can I generate my uv map? Like that is impossible. I need a single uv map for my simple shirt.

From Zbrush I can export my shirt with a single polygroup on, do my uv map in Max, however, before go to Poser and be able to rig my shirt, I need to generate again the exact polygroups that I already had, I can do that by Polygroups editor, or another software.

There is a way to not loose time skipping the last part, do not be forced to redo polygroups?

Thanks a lot and sorry for my rookie question!

Use UV Master’s ‘Work on Clone’ feature. With the clone activated, erase the polygroups (group visible) and export it. UV that in Max. Once you’re done, you can reimport your new UVs on top of it, and use UV Master to copy and paste the UVs from the clone back to the original polygrouped tool.

Thanks a lot Cryrid,
that is the proper work around.
As you can understand I’m just a Z rookie, hehehe!!!

When you say :" Once you’re done, you can reimport your new UVs on top of it…"
What do you mean? Reinport the clone as soobtool of my original shirt?

Thanks a lot for your suggetsion, now I can go on!!!

Basically just switch back to zbrush once you’re done unwrapping in max. If the cloned subtool is currently active (in edit mode), then when you import your new unwrapped OBJ it should update the UVs on the clone. It wont need to be added as a subtool in order for you to copy and paste the UVs from the clone to the original.

If you’re using GoZ, it might be even simpler than that.
