Using Reference Pic for Modeling Objects.

Hello everyone,

I am trying to find some zbrush tutorials covering Modeling Objects, Detailed Faces
Using 2D Pictures for References. I know how to do this is XSI, but I need some direction on with this method using Zbrush.

Thanks allot!!!

Hi Dunadan welcome¡¡
What version of ZB have you?
Andreseloy

I don’t have 2.0 yet, but I will soon.
I have the free demo version v1.55b.

Is there a way in Zbrush to use a “Rotoscope” or Modeling Reference Pics? Rather than just Free Hand I have Existing Art that I want to turn into 3D.

Dunadan in the quicklink you will found zscript tutorial that will show you modeling examples, the tutorial fold of the app has 27 tutorials and at least 4 are from Pixolator modeling and texturing heads(Modeling Samples). They will allow you to learn from… the second part of your reply i dont understand, you say you have an image and wanto to model from it?

Cool, I guess I will just go thru all the tutorials and learn as I go that way.

The second part of the question is regarding the method of modeling that I do in Softimage XSI. You can also do this in Maya as well. You “import” a picture of a Characters Face for example deform, extrude, subd, that cube, sphere ot what every and stay in the guidelines of the Reference pic. SO you end up with a Character Faces in 3D that you already have in 2D.

My quesiton would be, is there a Zbrush Tutorial that has a reference picture in it that is being used as a Guideline for your finished Model?

Oh Dunadan look this from Gary Komar, wip Zandra by Gary Komar this will you alot¡¡
Also you can put the reference image in one layer and unpress flatten layer in render panel and create a second layer where you are going to modeled, choose also a material that have transparency¡
Hope this help

Hi there!

I have a realy easy to use refrence pictures for any application…

it is called WINROLL…

you can get it here…
http://www.palma.com.au/winroll/

with this utility gives windows alot of the same abilitys as linux KDE…

Middle mouse button (mouse 3, mousewheel click) click on titlebar makes the window transparent so you can see through it…

and if you middle mouse button click on the close window X makes so that the window always stays ontop…

the transparent feature is nice… and when resizeing the window the pictures automaticaly scale with window…

also the stay on top feature is realy nice if you are switching between other applications and useing refrence images… like sometimes I have paintshop pro, Texture Maker (I-TEX), and lithunwrap open all at the same time… and I need the refrence picture in all of them, and with it always on top, it makes it realy easy…

I would post a screen shot of it in use, but my PSP screen ripper dose not see it for some reeason…

Works great with Zbrush!!! alot faster than importing picture and resizeing a plane and drawing it on screen…and like I said before is nice to have like this when useing more than 1 application at a time … plus its transparent so you can see what is behind it

Wow, thanks Guys, I have some work to do!!!
