ZBrushCentral

Using forums to promote products

I was wondering how other members feel about products being promoted in the forums. I feel that the forums should be a place for users to share information, ideas, and have discussion, (even to freely discuss what they think about training products). Not a place for commercial vendors to advertise.

ZBrushCentral is host to a lot of very talented people who gladly share there knowledge freely to the community. To me it would be appropriate to create a forum for the announcement of new commercial training, where the trainers and producers can talk about their products, but they should be kept separate from the open user forums.

Most new “products” that are relevant to 3D users are usually mentioned by someone on the forum anyway…what product do you hold shares in?

None, but I’ve been jumped a couple times on forums by authors of training videos thinking I was trying to adversely impact their sales.

I would draw the line at garage and yard sales.

ZBC’s moderators have asked to keep the discusion focused on ZBrush and have actively discouraged the discussion of other products & applications save for ZB Training.

For this reason, I wouldn’t expect much discussion of using ZB in a commercial pipeline since questions about how X works with Y (or more often discussion of bugs in ZB are hindering working with Y, is there a workaround?) are commonplace.

I think having a ZBC forum devoted to ZB in production pipeline would great, but I’m not sure that’s what Pix is looking for.

Regarding other software, think zbrush is trying for a fair mix.
Obviously they are in the business of selling software.
This site costs money to run.
To use as a billboard for other commercial programs makes no sense.

On the other hand, over the years, Zbrush has realized that theirs is
not really a “stand-alone” program. So that if you have problems with
zbrush working with “other kids” they have been patient and helpful.

Finally the other unmentioned problem.
The images that were created in other programs and have never
been touched by zbrush.
These are submitted as a form of advertisement for the artist and
are extremely misleading to others.

As I said, believe they are trying for a fair mix.

In the case of related products coming from people who participate here I see not issue with them alerting us to their wares. In fact I want to know about new tutorials or enhancements. Agents for competitors products are always pretty obvious and to be honest that makes me less likely to consider their product. I have not seen much of that here though.

There is a commercial thread for other applications and offers in the community forum. Great place and location to post something commercial without bothering anyone. Otherwise, this is the ZB Online Community and the ZB Online Community only. Maybe Bicc39’s Garage sale once in a while but that’s about it I’d say.
