Urgent! i need help to fill holes in a scan model

hi @ all

im a student and i must deliver a modell to my prof. on monday next week.

This modell was scanned whit a 3d laser scanner in our uni.

Every modell has some hole artifacts because of the scan ( the surface scatters the laser…)

Till now i “!manually!” fill the holes with Rapidform 2006. It took hours of time…

Now i need your help / ideas how to fill the holes in ZBrush.

I upload a foto so you can see what it look like…

Please help or i fail in this testat ;(

Thanx a lot

You can fix holes in a mesh with the topology tools, I would follow the instructions for I Editing existing topology in the Topology and Flow lab http://www.pixolator.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=44876&highlight=flow.

well i already read this tutorial but it doesnt fill my holes. And in this Tutorial they dont describe how to fill a hole. They only describe how you can copy an existing mesh…can someone explain it to me how you can fill a hole with topology.

too late now unfortunately but Geomagic studio or really any point cloud interpretation software should do that for you.

I had to do exactly the same thing on a life size platinum and diamond skull in order to RP it.

Yeah youre right …but geomagic…in my case rapidform…doesnt do that automaticly…that means i filled 350 holes manually in 40 hours with a lot of coffee…

But it simple annoies me so much…when i change to do that automaticly the systems either hangs up or dont recognize the hole…

There must be another solution…Maybe to put a cloth on the object so that the impression of it “glues” on a cloth…i dont know

Ill try to throw you an idea,
Split the model up in zbrush into some segements that dont have 3 billion polys and then bring into a program like maya fill the holes you need filled and reexport the geometry now bring to zbrush and combine and merge, another thing I could think of is using retopo tools in zbrush.

to do it via the retopo, pick the scan info as my base but not as my topology, just start creating new topology from scratch and the wholes will be filled.

Meshlab is supposed to have automatic hole filing, though I don’t know how well it works. on a hole this long and thin.

Retopo wise, yes. Load it is a base mesh, and retopo OVER that, then project it’s details onto the retopo.

hi

hmm i understand only a little bit what your talking about…i am not so in with zbrush. This tool is very useful, but complicated…Can you upload a z script with an basic object? something with many holes…

thx

its not an easy fix; this is why there’s specalised tools like gsi-studio and cyslice for cleaning and repairing scan data.

zbrush definitely isn’t designed for this workflow, hence talk of tracing a new layout over your existing mesh. i think you’ve left it too late to find a quick-fix solution, you’ve got no time to learn something new, nor fight z3’s still unstable topo tools. i think you just have to brute-force it.
