By default, ZBrush will always browse to the most recent folder that you had open. So if you have a work folder that you’re using for your projects, open a file from another folder, then go to save again, ZBrush will open the folder where you opened that other file rather than the folder you’ve been using for your projects. Later, when you restart ZBrush you then probably browse to projects folder and can’t find the file – because you accidentally saved it in the other location.

To help avoid these kinds of situations, turn on Preferences >> Misc >> Use ZFolders. With this active, ZBrush will always open to the proper default folder for the type of file that you’re saving. For example, if you are saving a project, ZBrush will automatically open the ZBrush 4R6\ZProjects folder. If you then import a texture, ZBrush will open the ZTextures folder. When you go to save your project again, ZBrush will return to the ZProjects folder automatically and when you restart ZBrush and go to load your project it will still open to the ZProjects folder.

You can still save your files in other locations if you’d like, simply by browsing to that location. But you’ll be far less likely to accidentally save someplace other than where you actually want to save. With Use ZFolders turned off, it is a good idea to get in the habit of always double-checking the folder you’re currently in before you actually save or load anything because ZBrush will ALWAYS automatically open the last folder you accessed.

The other errors sound like a corrupted OBJ file (for the file you can’t import) and a permissions issue (for everything else). If you contact Support, they can help you resolve the permissions problem.

I had the identical problem and Pixologic told me to go into the ZB Troubleshoot Help folder and run the special installer for GoZ(without GoZ running) That stopped the memory error for me

Hi Ted, what memory error you mean?

thanks for posting
