Right guys, I just wanted to clear up some points here for the author of this topic.
A modification of a game includes a group of enthusiasts who enjoy designing and creating game content. They take existing engines such as the Unreal engine, the Half life engine or the Quake engine (Any engine with a self-development kit included!) and then proceed to change parts of the game.
It could be a really simple mod, such a slight modification to how a weapon or vehicle works in the game. It could be a level. It could even range to what they call, a ‘Total conversion’, this is where everything is changed, levels, story, gameplay, weapons, characters etc. The most famous modification of a game engine is ‘Counter Strike’, which originally was a modification for half life.
The unreal 3 engine has not yet been released, properly. I say properly because you can get a basic sdk kit from an early unreal 3 game called Roboblitz, but it doesn’t have all of the features that will be included with the next unreal game. Although plenty of mod teams have started to create the ‘assets’ for their respective mods, making the 3d models for characters, static meshes, vehicles etc. They’ve started making them now because all they need to do when the actual SDK comes out, is import them into the game and with a little bit of coding mastery, they have a mod.
I believe, and correct me if i’m wrong. That Rhodeder is just seeing if anyone else shares the same game developing passion that he/she does. Majority of mods are unpaid position, mainly because people do it for fun and non-commercial reasons.
Thanks, and good luck with your mod Rhodeder :).
Edit. Oh, and unreal 3. Definatly availible for PC!
