Units of measurements

Hi,

I was wondering how you set up the actual units of measurements in ZBrush. Not the transpose units but the actual units. Say you are working on a design that needs specific measurements like 2’ 5" long by 4" high. What method is use to achieve this?

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Units inside the computer are completely arbitrary. It is you that defines the measurement between two points.

This means that you can determine the units you need. ZBrush then provides the tools you need to work within that. Simply draw a TransPose line between any two points where you know the distance between them. Then use Preferences >> TransPose Units to tell ZBrush what that measurement is. From that point forward, any TransPose line you draw will utilize those measurements.

You can also import a grid to serve as a background while you work. In this case you would draw your TransPose line between two points on the grid and set the value using the TransPose Units sub-palette.

The important thing isn’t so much the units as that everything you sculpt be proportionally accurate.

That’s not always true. Sometimes with real world applications the units can be critical.

Having said that Zbrush is terrible with imperial units. Stick with metric and use the transpose tool to measure.

Thanks for the feed back. It’s unfortunate but I had a feeling what I would need to do is create a cube in max based on the unit I want, i.e. in, cm, ft, m and then use that to calibrate my transpose units.
