Any known reasons for this? I’m trying to mirror a subtool and upon finishing I lose all of my subd levels and am left with only the highest.
This usually happens when the geometry can no longer be created through subdivision. Did you mirror, or mirror and weld?
It’s a boot I originally created in Maya. Sent to ZB and sculpted some details. When I tried to mirror it to create a set, it would give this error for every subd level as it was running the mirror process.
I thought maybe the subtool was too dense so I deleted some of the highest levels but that didn’t help. I’m at a loss for what is causing this. Very frustrating.
If you are going to Mirror a subtool with multiple subdivision levels, enable “Freeze SubDivision Levels” first. That is really the only way you can do it because the Mirror function won’t allow multiple subdivision levels. I presume you are making a duplicate then using Mirror in the Deformations subpalette?
another details that make the reconstruct subd level to not work is the presence of triangles on the mesh. but i think it would warn you about that if i remember well.
I did some dissecting of the model and found the culprit though I’m still not sure why it caused the problem.
I split up the subtool and mirrored each individual piece to see which one would error. It was a piece that I added from an IMM brush after freezing transformations on the subtool. Not sure if that is expected or not but my resolution was to split that bad piece from the subtool and then mirror the rest of the subtool as a whole. I then froze transformations again and merged the piece back into the subtool after i mirrored it. Now I’m left with a mirrored set that is exactly what I wanted.
Again, thanks for the help.
