Unable to place Tool palette items into a custom UI in Z4R6

Whichever item of the Tools Palette I place on my custom UI simply disappears again after I close and reload ZBrush.

I have found a the same problem answered for ZB4.2 but I guess that since then it must have been considered as solved.

Yet I experience that same problem.

I tried several times, but the problem does not go away, so I wonder what is going on. All the rest of the customizing seems to be ok.

I am ready to provide any data you want/need, just ask for it.

what happen to your interface if you put a 3d object in the scene and entire edit mode?

What he said; you must have found at least one thread I’d posted in regarding that issue.

You are of course right. The Tool menu adapts to what is open, so without an editable 3D tool nothing will be visible.

Sorry Doug, but the only mentioning of the problem I found was in that thread on it in 4.2 .

If I had found one of your entries I would not have posted this here. Obviously.

I have restarted ZBrush after a long hiatus, and in my memory it openen with an object already active. I probably mixed a few things up. It has grown and changed considerably since that time.

Thanks both for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it a lot.

Here is what that thread said. I think it explains why I decided to start this new thread here:

ArticleAn error was found that prevented ZBrush 4R2 from allowing you to place certain items into your Custom UI. Any item from the Tool palette could be used, but upon saving the UI and restarting ZBrush, those elements would disappear again.
To resolve this, simply download and install the plugin found here :
http://support.pixologic.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=7
After downloading, unzip the file. Within you will find the UIStarter_Z4R2_V1.zsc file. Copy that file directly into your ZBrush 4R2\ZStartup\Zplugs folder. Upon restarting ZBrush you will now be able to create custom UI’s using elements from the Tool palette.

Be aware that in Z4R2 the “Enable Customize” button is now found in the Preferences>Config menu. Preferences>Custom UI now only includes spacer items and other elements for creating custom palettes from scratch.
Also, once Enable Customize is turned on you must Ctrl+Alt+drag the elements in order to move them. Ctrl+drag will not work.

Any software has UI elements which must be learned. You’ll develop an understanding after a while just how this software works in contrast to what you might already know. Feel free to explore my UI which took me a couple years to arrive at  Have fun.

Thanks.
A very generous offer.
