Um, have a question, hope I can post here, if NOT, someone let me know ASAP

I am going to be buying another art program to enhance ZB, but mainly for compression, and for a look-see at what all you others are talking about.

Any suggestions? Why are they good that you would suggest it? Is it easy to learn?

Does anyone use PhotoImpactXL from ULead? I seem to remember someone did. It is now being “given” as a free trial, but I am not sure what it can do. Can it work with 3D, or is it just painting?

Hm, let me find the site again so I can include the link, then maybe someone could answer this particular question (as I would really like to try out the product before buying, but it is cheap). Aw, here is the sight that has a very lot of free trials. I am interested in the PhotoImpact one.

Ulead is a wise choice: you get versions 6 and 7 cheap. XL - well I guess they tried to do “something”, just something so that they could draw money for a new version - I might be wrong in this.
Versions 6 and 7 (ok, there’s 8 to get, too) are very similar, so you might go along well with version 6.
I am using Ulead’s Photoimpact since I don’t know when, and NEVER had to nag about anything.
Concerning compression: it does jpg, gif and png. You can perform a batch-run and then look for the best version of your pic, truly easy and quickly!!

FORGOT: it just does not matter that you will work with 2D-files in Photoimpact >> all you get out of ZBrush will be 2D’s if I got it right (what you are up to).

Thank you Frenchy and Zerebrush.

Frenchy, you helped me a lot. Gonna download the free trial and check it out, then most likely buy.

Zerebrush, there really is nothing up. You see, I only have one place where I can change and compress files, and that is in my PhotoSuite II. Lordy, that is a “funny” story now, and not really. But my PhotoSuite is not really good anymore, and I have the hardest time getting pics to come out so they are not blurry, and I will not be able to keep my pics under 200kb unless I got something else. You see, when I was first experimenting with my PhotoSuite, I named something “SayWhatGirraffe”. God, that haunts me now. As whenever I am going to have a problem with my photosuite, this pic tag pops up and says “SayWhatGiraffe”. (FUNNY :)) But it does it everyday, at least twice a day.

And knowing and seeing others talk about other art programs, I am curious. But why Ulead? That was an easy choice to look up. You see, I was looking for an art program (then was thinking of animation) and came across Ulead. I was actually going to go with Ulead until I found ZBrush. Then I got to comparing the two. Now, when I say it was the forum that made me chose ZB, I am NOT LYING. The forum is a place where you can continually learn whenever you want, and whatever you want, in whatever order you want. You can be side tracked, and you are still learning. And you have contact with other people who are very nice, and actually very helpful…but Ulead does not have that, it has online courses and all that, but no one on one possiblity thru PM to ask embarrassing questions because you think you should know it by now. No, it only had courses, and a manual. And the place struck me as cold after finding ZB. So I got ZB.

But when I decided that I was going to check out compression programs (having no clue what was good or not), I decided to look at ULead again, because I know you can take art work to these other art programs and compress them, and keep them so they are clear and under 200kb. So this is how I ended back up at Ulead. Since it is cheap, I will buy it (already know that, like I knew I would buy ZB in the beginning).

So there is nothing up my sleeve other then wanting another program that can compresss artwork and keep its clarity.

Don’t believe me? Go back to my thread where I asked for a 121 on my very first painting with the palm trees. That pic is posted twice, and there is a very big difference in clarity between them.

Thanks all

Mandy

Compairing ZBrush and ULead??

Well, you might compare nails and bananas then as well!!

And: do you REALLY need a forum for every bit of soft you have?? I mean: before I bother anybody on a forum, I will do everything possible to get it straight on my own.
Besides that: Photoimpact is straightforward and easy in every aspect. There surely are other applications that can do the same thing, but you asked about software we could recommend on a personal experience.

I may be wrong, but Pilou??? Nope!!!

btw Pilou: this is me

I think this appropriately reflects how I feel about what you have just said Zerebrush!

NO, I do not need a forum for every bit of software that I have. This is the ONLY forum I belong to, and I chose to participate in it.

As a hermit (not always by choice by some people), I have NO ONE to show my artwork to, except my Mother…and I like to get feedback. That is one of the greatest reasons the forum exists.

And I consider no one a bother if they ask questions. Many do it.

So your comment strikes a big ZERO in my book Zerebrush!

But the Lord only knows why I still love ya babe

Mandy

Very nice end !
Beautiful cat portrait
Pilou
For Ze
You have a very strange similar aspect of my sister

@ Kitty: I really care for this forum and the posters here - don’t have to tell YOU, you’ve got the “message” right, so: GO AND GET THAT DARN PHOTOIMPACT!!! Want to see your pics without any losses!!!

http://www.jasc.com
It’s cheap, easy to learn, and loaded with very similar features as photoshop. Plus it has awesome jpeg compression.
Here are two other links to give you some idea of what kinds of other 2D and 3D software are out there. http://www.bahkter.com http://www.3dlinks.com
(“Bahkter” exceeds it’s bandwith alot so try periodically checking back. It’s like a dictionary of programs.)-SirQ

For Sir of Quadalot
See the “comparaisons” above :)(8 post above)
For the same price you have not the same functions
Pilou
Ps Not so easy : I haven’t never use it with facility (depend of brain disposition

Zerebrush, going to do it today

I worried that you would take offense at what I said to you, and would think that I did not consider you a good friend anymore. But I do consider you a good friend, which is why I ended my message the way that I did.

Hey, I think I will check out Paint Shop Pro, thanks…but going to wait until I can get into that other web site first.

You all are wonderful

Mandy

Well, on the web you can simply make up anything - for a short time. Sooner or later you must stand your ground, and the folks around you might see the “real” you.

I am here for the fun of it - mostly  .

You might want to check the gimp which is free, open source and very powerful.

Kitty, Have a look at project dogwaffle, there is a free version, not sure about the compression thing http://www.squirreldome.com/cyberop.htm

For landscapes you could look at terragen (free for non commercial use) ‘similar’ to bryce
http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/

and I agree with Rafael, although I personally havent used it I have heard good things about gimp- and its free!! http://www.gimp.org/
Best wishes

Roy

Maybe maybe but the best rapport Quality Capabilities / Low price is always Photo Impact
Pilou

dogwaffle: if you don’t like Painter, can’t afford it, whatever >>>> this is the software to look for, but: Kitty was looking for software that could do jpg, gif, png!

Dogwaffle can’t do that.
The same goes for terragen - outstanding to do terraforming but unable to do clever compressing.

I use Irfanview…
It’s free, has lots of compression options, and is made for this kind of stuff.
(Did I mention it’s free? )

Oh yes, IrfanView. Great for just viewing many pictures, converting and doing batch conversions. :+1: You’ll have to experiment with the Jpeg compression quality slider to match the 200kb size required for ZBC, i.e a couple of jpg conversions as there is no preview.

I second Mr. Stonecutter here - if compression is what youre after get irfanview - free and loaded with compression algorythms.

Thank you, I am now d/loading this. Yesterday (or day before) was sick with a cold (get when I get too tired) yesterday, but the day before the ulead download failed after it was done downloading. It said it was a bad zip file. Now that put me on alert. And I immediately ran a virus check. But if any of you are interested, I did find a place that is “giving” Paint Shop Pro 8 free for 30 days.

Let me see if I can get the link working for ya if you are interested.
www.whisperscorner.com/tuts/watertext/

Now do not get the wrong idea about the above link since it starts with a tutorial on how to make animated water in this program. You see, yesterday I felt like indulging myself, and was looking for a link that I did NOT save. But I found it. And I did indulge myself

It is a “nightlight” of sorts. I chose one that sits on a surface. It is animated water and all the sounds it makes (adjustable volumn) and has bird sounds. LOL thought two things. It would relax me and help me to sleep, and it would drive my cat nuts. May purchase one, if I can find it, of an “aquarium” on the same line

My cat hats birds cuz I used to have them, and would sing Zippity Doo Dah to them everyday. Now I do not have the birds anymore, but if I sing that song, my cat comes running and starts to lick my mouth to shut me up

So I did a search on animated water, eventually found it after a lot of other searching, but in the process I found this site, and I saved it. But I am not downloading it yet, not until I have my Wacom and I am somewhat used to it.

So thank you all for the help, it is truely appreciated, and I am so grateful

Mandy
