Hi everyone.

I finally got around to buying my ultimaker and I’m learning the ins and outs.

This is a batman sculpt I did some time back and I’m tweaking and modifying while playing around with the Ultimaker. This print was at “normal” resolution and took about 3 hours. I’m still going to try hi-res and ultra hi res here soon, but they are 8hr and 13hr print times, so they take some patience that I don’t currently have with the new toy.

I’m also picking up a B9 Creator in the fall and I’m planning on starting a “low budget” 3D printing and prototyping blog that should be tailored towards creatives and designers. I’m hoping it will be a big help for those of us who want to hold our stuff in our hands but don’t want to have to tinker for millennia to get it.

The B9Creator is going to be pretty amazing and will be very well suited for zBrush work.

I’ll keep you all posted, in the meantime here we go.

They most certainly are. I’m going to be very interested in whether Mike will make a model with bigger x,y. I’ve been going back and forth a bunch with him (I’m trying to help with some of his marketing needs) and I don’t think people really understand the difference between not only the ease of use of this system vs say an ultimaker but also just the sheer jump in quality and complexity of the models it’s capable of.

The math specs don’t always tell the whole story.

I’m already VERY interested in building a second kit with a 1920x1080 with short throw lens… hell, I’d even consider mounting the project further away and maintaining insane detail at a much larger build size.

The folks on here should be VERY interested in his project. I posted about it a while back but it never even got a reply.

It’s a shame considering this and the jewelry market are the ones that this type of kit will most benefit.

The thing I can’t believe is that Objet and the others are continuing with their idiotic little “consumer” models that are still 10-25 grand like they just don’t see what’s about to hit them.

The tech Mike is playing with is about to render Objet square in the cross hairs. I’m betting on months until someone has a dual materials model like their connex series…

I can’t wait.

Hit me up when you get yours. We can bounce off each other when we’re tinkering.

Very jealous of you guys and your B9 creators! I’m in school and will have to wait until after the kickstarter is over to get mine…but i’m SO GLAD that someone like Mike came along. Junior Veloso, (if you were following his printer) was looking good but he made a few poor decisions that cost him all of his user base. Thankfully, in comes Mike with an amazing machine for jewellery and small sculptures to save the day! I am curious though about what you said on bigger build volumes and higher resolutions, are people waiting to modify his machine with a higher resolution? Is there somewhere I can read more about this? :smiley:

From what I understand, Mike plans to open-source the project after the Kickstarter campaign. He is going to own and build the B9 Creator brand, but beyond that he wants to see the movement grow. He plans to open up the resins and the mechanics so that people can adapt the project to their needs.

I’m very interested in whether someone with more knowledge than myself could kickstart a lens campaign to make a short focus lens adapter for 1080p Projectors. You can imagine then going to a good bit larger size but keeping the same detail and resolution or still doing the smaller sizes but with INSANE resolution.

Mike is a really cool guy who really believes in the future of the maker economy. I think his brand will go far simply because he’s building a rock solid machine, but yes, he’s going to give the plans to everyone at some point.

Just hit up the kickstarter campaign and read up.

Fired up your printer yet? I made my first print last week at 50 microns, pretty happy with the results.
