I made a cylinder 3d
made a mask
extracted the masked
divided to 2million polys
masked the edge of the extraction
tried to sculpt and smooth and got those pixelations

You’re right, it is ugly. Back away and think it through. What are you trying to model? 2 million points is for detail work.

Ive sculpted at 8 million
why are the edges pixelated

I’m not trying to sculpt anything I’m just sculpting to get better

I was trying to add detail to the border

Any masked points are unaffected by sculpting and painting. Start simple and set a goal in your mind (an image of your idea). Block in the shape first, then add details when it suits.
BTW the Dragon I did, has 1.205 Mil points total.

try turning on backface masking and see if that helps. Looking at that model you should be able to use polygroups by angle 45 degrees so you can have seperate polygroups for each face and when you turn on backface you can sculpt on one polygroup individually.

Try it out and see if it helps mate.

tried the backface masking, didn’t change anything, still cant sculpt on the edge of the part

ok I used zremesh and it fixed it up nice for me so that I can now sculpt the corners, even rounded the corners like I was going to want later on anyways

hey sry that didnt help but im glad you found the solution.

chris

Thanks anyways chris
you mentioning that I could use poly groups per face and sculpt each individual face sounds like it will come in handy at some point
