Ubisoft Campus portfolio piece

hello, i’m graduating in about 1 month and this will be in my demo reel…I have the hair and eyebrows left to do and then i will texture it…

this is the recent version which i’ve worked on tonight

Very nice detail !

How will you do the hair?

It looks good. I dont think you’re lacking in the details. I think you should lower the subdivisions and look at the structure of the face though. The gap between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip looks a bit too big. I also think that the bridge of his nose looks wide because of the skin thats flowing around it. Grab some reference images and block the basic shapes, then try to match those shapes on your low sub div level.
Thats my 5 Cents.
Looks good. Keep the updates coming.

Siah.

hi, you’re right about the width of the nose, i will fix that tonight, but for the distance between the bottom of the nose and the top of the lip, the references of the man i used has it that big, even though it might look a little too big thats how he seems to have it, thanks for the critique!

That’s a really nice sculpt. I like the subtle asymmetry you’ve created in the face, I think you can push that even further. The comment about the space between the nose and mouth is spot on, the skin does droop with old age but not that much. Also, I suggest you look at the ears a bit more. They tend to flare out more in the elderly, and the lower earlobe looks slightly lumpy. Looking forward to seeing it finished and textured.

thanks, i’m finding the critiques very useful, it’s the whole point i posted it here…lol I’ll move the space between the mouth and the nose closer together, as for the ears, I had them more flared before and then i shaped them closer to the head, i’ll fix that too…

I made some changes according to the feedback i got from the forum and I’m happy with the results!..I made the nose thinner, I fixed the ears, and I shortened the distance between the top of the lips and the bottom the nose

I think this is a fantastic head, the detailing is fantastic. I just feel the face is a little lacking in the bone definition department.

Hey dude, nice changes. His face looks great from the front. There might be some minor changes you can do to the lips and chin from that side angle…
How are you going about measuring the face. Could you post your reference images here too so we can critique it further?

thanks, I appreciate the help. These are some of the ref pictures I’m using, the first guy to the left is what I used for the general proportions and the other 2 on the right are what I used for the neck/collar bone area.

hi,
looking pretty good so far, but i do think that alot of your detailed wrinkles are rather scratchy, your lighting isnt too sympathetic here, i look forward to more posts,
prosthetix

hi, what do you mean exactly by too scratchy?

hi,
alot of the detail wrinkles you have & alot of people do it, even with ‘real’ clay, are kinda like straight marks, like scratches .
im fortunate to be surrounded by lots of old life casts of old people & their skin is so soft and thin looking, with lines that follow the contours & shapes .
hope that helps a little !

I’m done for sculpting part of the project, next is texturing…

Awesome bust!

Hy Vince , I found your thread ;). Nice sculpt , I am happy to see you going forward. few little things about general face anatomy, the year its too faraway from the yeyes if you look at it in the side view. The wrinkles you created ( vertical ones) on the clavicules to the neck I personaly think its too many of those, normaly if you have so many its because you tense your jaw and it muscles , I suggest keep 2 first ones on each side sternomastoid muscle and th next one and the reste smooth it out , and last thing tip of the year make it even more thiner thiner because if you look on you ref you can realy feel old flasqe skin . Thats prety much it or maybe not but at least its few steps towards perfection ;). Keep working hard

thanks man! i really appreciate it…you’re right the ear was too far back…stupid of me not to have noticed…anyways I made the changes you’ve suggested and it does look better…

I started the texturing process, I’m gonna be doing an sss render in mr and so to start I’ve painted the bottom layer of the skin…

It’s coming along great. You’re using the method in Nick Z’s tutorial?
