Turntable: Smooth Looping Possible?

Hello everyone,
this may be a non-issue to advanced users, but it is driving me bonkers:
when I export a turntable from ZBrush, no matter what SpinFrame option I choose, there is a lapse between the first and the last frame which makes the looping of the turntable stutter. I cannot get it out.

Now I realize I could simply set 2 SpinCycles, edit out the part I no longer need and have a smooth loop, but that takes twice the render time plus time for the edit. Not to mention that the export options have gotten… well, rather slim with 4R7.

Is there a way to fix this from within ZBrush itself? Some kind of jiggling the settings maybe?

I suppose the stutter is caused by the first and last frame being repeated, so there’s a small delay when looping. There’s no way to avoid that directly but I wrote a small plugin recently which outputs an image sequence for a turntable. If you have suitable software for creating a movie, it will allow you to delete the last image in the sequence:

Hello Marcus,

I tried clicking on the link above but it doesn’t look like it’s available anymore.

Do you know if this script is still available through another link?

Thank you,

Ashley

Hi Ashley,

Welcome to ZBC!

The script at that link wouldn’t have worked with the latest version of ZBrush. Try this version instead:

TurntableExport_2022.zip (7.7 KB)

  1. Unzip the file to your Desktop, open any folder created by the unzipping and then copy the TurntableExport_2022.zsc file to your ZBrush 2022\ZStartup\ZPlugs64 folder.
  2. Restart ZBrush.

You should now have a new sub-palette in the Movie palette called Turntable Export .

  1. Set up your model.
  2. Set the axis, spin frames and spin cycles in the Movie>Modifiers.
  3. Choose which images you want to export from the switches in the Movie>Turntable Export sub-palette. If no images are selected then the plugin will simply record a ZBrush movie.
  4. Press the Render Turntable button. You will get different file dialogs to choose locations for each of the image types you have chosen.
